This process accelerated following passage of state legislation authorizing municipal consolidation across county lines beginning with Bloomfield Township on January 1, 1957 through to South Orange Township on December 15th that same year which created Middlesex County under the new law - thusFlorHAM PARK lost its city status but remained a borough administrated by Morris County government until it merged into that county upon creation of Monmouth County effective January 1st 1978).
