Florham Park is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Trenton, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settler in what is now Florham Park was Nicholas Dey who arrived in 1686 and built a farm on what is now the east side of town. This became known as "Dey's Corner." In 1710, John Reynolds settled in this area and built a large log house on what is now State Road 8 near where it crosses Route 9. The village of Florham Park began to form around this house with people coming to trade goods and services with Reynolds' neighbors. By 1764, the village had a school and meeting place and by 1800 there were three stores, two churches and eighty-six homes. By 1814, all these businesses had been consolidated into one entity named "Plymouth Township". In 1824, Plymouth Township was divided into two portions: North Plymouth which included Florham Park and South Plymouth which did not include Florham Park. North Plymouth took over responsibility for education while South Plymouth continued to provide law enforcement services until 1828 when that responsibility was transferred to Middlesex County. In 1846, both portions of Plymouth Township were combined under one name - "Morris County". This made Florham Park an unincorporated community within Morris County proper. During World War II, local residents worked on munitions plants in nearby Union City or Trenton during peacetime but because of the war their work stopped after Pearl Harbor happened on December 7th 1941; they lost their jobs just as America entered World War II (they still have rights to benefits through the current program). After war ended they received little compensation from Morris County government unlike other wartime workers such as firefighters whose job opportunities improved greatly after 1945 due to post-war reconstruction policies enacted by President Harry S Truman (which also promoted suburban growth throughout Morris County). The first Europeans to visit what is now FlorHAM PARK were Dutch traders on their way from Amsterdam to purchase more land in present-day NJ from the Lenape Indians. They built a cabin there in 1664 and named it "Haddonfield". A group of Englishmen who had come ashore for supplies on the Delaware River named the place after their home town of Haddam, Connecticut. The first settler in FlorHAM PARK was Nicholas deVere, of London (1672). In 1701 John Friend bought 2 acres (0.8 km²) of land adjoining Nicholas de Vere's property and began agricultural operations. He erected a log house on his farmstead which still stands today as Friendship House Museum. friendship was one of many early settlers in what would become Morris County and he remains an important part of its history. In 1814 John Fenton purchased 1/3 interest in William Caldwell's tract of 40 acres (16 ha), which became known as Garden Township because it lay within the boundaries of Newark Liberty International Airport that same year when Newark opened its airport system as part of municipal government restructuring following Prohibition efforts by New Jersey Governor James Kieft. The airport became an integral part of Morristown Municipal Government when it was created by merger with portions of Essex Township on December 3, 1947 under then-Governor Robert Wood Johnson II.). Between 1920 and 1925 FlorHAM PARK had three post office buildings: One near where I-495 now exits southbound off Rte 401; one at junction Road 23A eastbound off I-95 northbound; and one at intersection Road 10 westbound off exit 9A from I-295 southbound into NJ Turnpike Authority jurisdiction about two miles northeast thereof.. In 1930s two new buildings were constructed: One served as a fire department garage; the other housed the town clerk’s office until 1985 when that building burned down due to arson according to township website . In 1954 FlorHAM PARK had its own library with 6 branches located throughouttownship including one inside City Hall – also serving as school district headquarters until 1984 when that building burned down due to arson according to township website . In 1955 two new schools were built: North Middle School for grades 7-12 followed by South Middle School for grades 11 through 12 – both are still operating today with updated facilities thanks to private donations over time! These latter schools are also home to the current Borough Council chambers located inside city hall which serve as county courthouse annexes since 1964! On October 15th 1957 FlorHAM PARK came under control from Middlesex County following statehood laws enacted via referendum approved by voters local thereto on November 5th 1957….. This event marks not just jerseyans gaining control over their own municipality but also Middlesex County becoming responsible for all municipally owned properties within its borders………. Asbury Park borough annexed neighboring Hunterdon County effective January 1st 1959 while Freeport annexed neighboring Mercer County effective February 15th 1959 resulting in a total population size increase from 20 residents per square mile (.92 citizens per sq mi.) residing within borough limits upto 276 residents per square mile (.96 citizens per sqmi.) living within county boundaries!!
