Fairview is a town in and the county seat of Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Area. The name Fairview comes from two sources: one meaning "a fair" and another meaning "a wooded plateau on which an early Dutch settlement was located." The first settler in what is now FairVIEW was Nicholas van der Valk (1645-1719), who purchased land from the Indians in 1675. In 1701, John Smith founded a new village called Newtown on the site of what is now FairVIEW. In 1764, Anthony Wayne bought 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) of road from Nicholas van der Valk to sell to settlers for £2 per acre (0.40 hectare). On July 12, 1778, during American Revolutionary War, General George Washington's army destroyed a munitions factory in Newtown while burning down all buildings except for one that housed a church and school house. This event became known as "the Battle of Newtown". It took until 1814 before FairVIEW had its own parish priest; Father John Fenton arrived in 1809 after being brought over by Bishop James Moody from Trenton. As New Jersey grew increasingly politically unstable with no central government or authority over local matters, tensions mounted between Catholic and Protestant denominations over control of churches and other religious institutions within their respective communities - especially those established by Irish immigrants - culminating in this attack against Father Fenton's home on October 6th 1814 which resulted in his death as well as three others injuries sustained when he tried to address the mob outside his home5 In 1865 Princeton Academy moved into what are now School House Square on Broad Street near where Father Fenton's home used to stand6 . The first settler in what is now Fairview was Jacob Weisman who arrived in 1764. He and his family were the first to homestead in what is today Fairview Township. Weisman's children Peter and Mary built the first house on the present site of Fairview High School in 1812. In 1832, William Sibley became one of the earliest settlers in modern dayFairview Township when he bought land from David Mather for $1,000. In 1834, Sibley built a home called "Sibley's Tavern" which still stands today on Main Street in FairVIEW Township. In 1859, John Cavanaugh purchased 2 500 acres (120 km²) of land from Moses Browning for $10 per acre ($2 per hectare). This land would later become known as Cavanaugh Park and forms much of what is now eastern side ofFairVIEWtownship Line Road NW between Caldwell Avenue and Schuylkill River Parkway SE. “One Hundred Acres or More: A History of Farming and Ranching along Cavanaugh Park” by Don Deutschman tells the story of how this property came to be and how it has been used over time including current use as a parkland by FairVIEW Township residents and visitors alike.. Deutschman also discusses some interesting aspects about early farming methods used on this property such as crop rotation with beans followed by corn; dairying with sheep; oilseed production with hogs; potatoes grown near saltpeter mines; etc…Today there are several hundred acres (120 km²) remaining undeveloped within Cavanaugh Park that could potentially become another thriving agricultural community if more attention was paid to its potential!.”
