Fairview is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,444 at the 2010 census. It is included within the Southside Community District. The borough was founded on July 1, 1871, by two groups of settlers: the Fairview Land and Improvement Company and the Fairview Association. The name was derived from a nearby hillock called "Fairy Hill." In 1892, the borough became part of Ridgefield Township; but on April 20, 1907 it reverted to its original boundaries. On January 1, 2020, Fairview became a Borough again with 3 wards (numbered 1-3) as well as an elected Mayor and Councilmember with no term limit. The current mayor is Joseph Fortunato (1st Ward). Borough councilors are Frank Amedeo (2nd Ward), Rosario DiMaggio (3rd Ward), and Alain Russo Jr.

Fairview, New Jersey is a township in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 21,824. Fairview was formed in 1834 from parts of Burlington Township and Secaucus Township. It became an incorporated municipality in 1903. The first European settlers arrived in what is now FairVIEW on October 20, 1776 byantine led by Colonel John Carteret as part of what is now Delaware County during the American Revolution. The colonists named their new town after Sir George Fairfield (1711-1783), a British general and governor of America who had participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill and later served as Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces in North America. On March 6, 1834, FairVIEW was formally organized as a township by Act of Assembly with a population of 3,500 residents; it gained borough status on April 8th that year. In 1863 the Railroadtowns Improvement Company built a depot at the junction of state Route 9A and Route 202 near present day Union City which became known as "The Depot". The company extended its line to Camden and produced some jobs for local residents while also serving as an important transportation link between Camden and other townships on both sides of Newark Bay. The Depot closed down around 1920 due to lack patronage from commuters travelling along State Routes 9A and 202 combined with competition from more established businesses along those routes which developed closer to downtown Newark instead. In 1973 Borough President William Fenton ordered that all traces associated with Railroadtowns be destroyed so that future generations may not experience this historyfirst hand like some did when they visited Railroadtowns during their childhood or teenage years." Although many factors led to Railroads demise including competition from automobiles (electric trains replaced steam locomotives) comingcompetitively into service throughout much AmerikaRailroads failed due largely because it invested heavily into infrastructure projects which were not immediately profitable
In 1764, the first permanent settler in what is now Fairview Township was George Washington. In 1833, a post office was established at Fairview and the township took its name from this site. The township was organized on April 14, 1838. It became a part of Mercer County on November 15, 1850.
