Fairview, New Jersey is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden City School District. The area that now makes up Fairview was first settled by Europeans in 1764 as "Farmingdale". The name may be derived from "faire", meaning fair or market place. A post office called Fairview was established in 1802 and remained in operation until 1955. The township was incorporated as a borough on February 14, 1832 and renamed after James Fenton (1775-1839), an Englishman who had come to America and become one of the first settlers in what would become Hunterdon County. In 1868, the Township's boundaries were enlarged when it merged with neighboring Westfield Township to form Hunterdon County's second most populous municipality - after Paterson – with a population of 23,534. The merger produced some unusual consequences; for example, Fairview became one of only two townships (the other being Morristown) in which all residents were required to vote before they could be considered for office or taxation. Additionally, voting opportunities for township members increased sharply as a result of this consolidation; eventually all but 10 percent of township residents voted at least once during the 19th century. At its peak in 1960–1961, Fairview had a population of 382 people; however, this number decreased rapidly due to various factors including suburbanization within Glassell Park Borough and decLINEATION OF HUNTERDON COUNTY through annexation by Camden City following their victory over Hunterdon County (*see infra*) In 2001 Census there were just 13 residents living on village property & less than 1%Population growth since then has led to Village incorporation into full Township status effective November 1st 2009 (& beginning processes forVillage Name change back to 'Farmingdale' if necessary) . According to recent demographic reports made available thru early 2011 Census Bureau data (.pdf file), Farmingdale’s population totals just over 100 citizens (& growing slowly but steadily) providing services such as Water Taxi service from ‘The Landing’ Marina located on Market Street

Fairview is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Essex Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to sighting what would become Fairview was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 when he sailed past Cape May on his way to India. In 1764, Colonel John Woolridge established himself and his family in Fairview Township from portions of Rahway and East Orange. The first store in Fairview opened its doors on October 4, 1764, at a site where Factory Road now intersects First Street. In 1824, the township became part of Middlesex County and for many years it functioned as an agricultural township with landowners electing one or more representatives to the Township Committee which oversaw the operation of their farms. In 1854, however, due to cracks appearing throughout the county caused by rapid development along Route 1 (the modern Interstate 95), voters decided that they should secede and form their own municipality which they did on November 5th of that year under the name "Fairview Borough." On January 1st of 1860 FairVIEW BOROUGH had a population of 2154 residents! As Middlesex County grew increasingly complex following the American Civil War various towns within it were annexed into other counties including Essex County in 1871 and finally New Jersey in 1974. As a result of this process much of what used to be rural eastern Middlesex County has now been incorporated into more urban areas like Newark and Far Hills while some parts have remained completely unaffected such as Fairview which retains its historic downtown core dating back to around 1800 when wealthy Europeans began settling hereabouts seeking better access to marketable land near then great Philadelphia trade center called "The Triangle".
The town of Fairview was founded in 1795 as a small settlement on the border of Middlesex County and Union County. The area that is now Fairview was part of the Township of Easton until 1812, when it became a separate town. In 1814, Fairview was renamed Princeton after Princeton University, and in 1834 it became the capital of New Jersey. In 1913,Fairview merged with nearby West Orange to form an even larger municipality known as "Fairview-West Orange." As part of efforts to improve transportation in the area,FairVIEW Expressway (now I-287)was built between New Brunswick and Trenton in 1958. It connected FairVIEW with both Newark Liberty International Airport and Route 14 east of town. The expressway has been a major factor in helping to increase traffic through FairVIEW over the years.
