Fairview is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 17,854. The name Fairview is from the Dutch word "fair" meaning "peaceful." The first European to visit what is now FairVIEW Township was John derelict in 1671. He named it for his friend and patron saint, Saint Francis of Assisi. Early settlers were farmers and their families who used ponies to carry goods overland from Philadelphia or Trenton on the Susquehanna River. In 1802, John DeLancey purchased 1/4 interest in the township from Samuel Fenton for $10 per acre (1/2 share). Up until then all land in Morris County had been bought and sold at public auction. The purchase made FairVIEW one of the most spacious townships in New Jersey with a total area of . It also marked a significant change as FairVIEW became part of Morris County rather than being annexed by neighboring communities such as Princeton or Westfield which were more populous and politically powerful. In 1830, an act known as The Towne Charter Amendment granted voting rights to women for the first time in America and created a board of education which would later become known as the Township Committee. From this point forward many important decisions that shaped FairVIEW's future were made by members of this community-based body including: election of trustees; establishment of schools; erection of churches and other religious buildings; development of industry; road building & maintenance; zoning changes; etc., etc.. Until recently some residents still refer to themselves simply as "townies" while others prefer to identify themselves more specifically as "FairVIEWites". One core value that has been shared by all inhabitants since its inception has been support for agriculture which continues to be an important part of their lives today both economically & environmentally - something that they have never given up easily or without struggle. Additionally there are numerous cultural organizations that have sprung up over time such as:the American Legion Post #523 (now called Veterans Affairs Regional Supportive Service Unit #523), First Presbyterian Church (now called Christ Lutheran Church) located across Route 9 from Southwick Elementary School (formerly Park Avenue United Methodist Church), Irish-American Club 25th Street Irish Language Center, Italian-American Club on Clinton Street near Allendale High School - among many others... nearly every resident knows someone who belongs to one or more local organizations! An interesting fact about Fairview's unique history is that it has undergone several name changes throughout its existence both due to political pressure from adjacent municipalities (& Princeton) and changing demographics within Morris County itself (- becoming increasingly African American & Hispanic during the 1970s when Morristown began annexing surrounding townships)... hence we find various things like:Fairview Heights Borough 1945-1957; Swedesboro Borough 1957-1960s; Glenville Borough 1960s-1970s; Ballston Lake Borough 1975-1980s... finally arriving at our current moniker - FairVIEW Township 2009-.

In 1830, Reverend George Waddell built a log cabin on what is now the corner of Springwood Road and Park Avenue in FairVIEW Township. Mr. Waddell became an early leader in township affairs and donated land to the township for use as a public square and schoolhouse." The area that makes up today'sFairview has been settled by humans since at least 10,000 years ago according to archaeological evidence recovered during construction projects surrounding Union College’s current campus on South Broad Street near where Bloomfield Hills Boulevard meets I-95 (now called Lincoln Highway). One such site lies just east of present day Springwood Road off Route 22 which was once part of Indian Path Creek flowing through Bound Brook Valley before it was diverted under I-95 while still lying within Bound Brook Township boundaries – this location has recently been explored by archaeologists working for Rutgers University’s New Brunswick Archaeology Center as part of their research into prehistoric life in southeastern New Jersey."
