In 1868, a store called the "Guns and Ammo Exchange" was opened in Fairview. The store sold firearms and ammunition. In 1916, the store was renamed the "Fairview Armory". The armory also became a licensed gunsmith. In 1951, the armory was sold to Joe Giannini and his family. The Gianninis ran the armory until it closed in 1978.

Fairview is a borough in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the borough's population was 11,827. The name is taken from an early settlement on the Monmouth and Passaic Rivers. The first European settler in Fairview was Moses Taylor who arrived in 1764. The town was formed as a township by order of the New Jersey General Assembly on July 1, 1804, based on land grant from Governor John Woolridge. On November 5, 1825, it became a city when its citizens voted to annex portions of nearby Paterson. According to the United States Census Bureau, Fairview has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000,[2] there were 10,815 people residing in Fairview Borough; 6 percent (4,859) were Hispanic or Latino of any race; and 3 percent (1,521) were foreign born residents. The population density was 2,737/sq mi (1,024/km²). There were 731 housing units at an average density of 902/sq mi (356/km²). The racial makeup of Fairview Borough was 96% White; 0% African American; 2% Native American; 2% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 1% from other races; and 1%from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race made up 8%of the population. In terms of ancestry: Irish (9%, down from 12%), Italian (10%, up from 7%), Portuguese (6%, up from 4%), Swedish (4%, up from 2%), Norwegian (2%, down from 3%), British Isles (.8%).

This project destroyed many homes and businesses along the route; it also led to a significant decrease in traffic on Main Street which made it difficult for residents to sell their homes or keep them updated. Despite these challenges,Fairview has continued to grow since it became an independent municipality in 1996. Today,thecommunity has a population of over 900 people and is home to several major businesses including Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Verizon Wireless Headquarters (formerly Bell Labs), Stoneleigh Golf Club (one of New Jersey's top golf courses), and Zimmerli Electric Corporation headquarters complex.

The town of Fairview was founded in 1777 by the brothers Nicholas and John Fairview. It grew rapidly due to the production of paper goods and other products related to the paper industry. By 1811, the town had a population of over 150 people and it became an important center for trade with neighboring towns. In 1876, Fairview was incorporated as a borough. The borough held elections every two years until 1984 when they were replaced by a full-time township form of government. The township has since been dissolved and its residents have moved to different townships within New Jersey.
