Fairview is a borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 Census, Fairview had a population of 26,523. The borough was founded in 1828 and is named for Colonel James Fairfield who donated land to the town. The first post office opened in 1829 and was called "Duncannon". In 1873, Fairview became part of Edison Township (now Edison), as part of a larger township reorganization. The name "Fairview" may be derived from one or more ancient Indian names meaning "two valleys." According to one story, when Native Americans first discovered this area they thought it was an uninhabited swamp because there was no water anywhere nearby. However, when they moved further into the area they found two valleys - one on each side of what is now known as Mount Laurel Avenue - which made it easy for them to trade goods with other tribes because there were abundant resources hereabouts. Eventually, settlers began calling this area Fairfield because of these similarities and also because Colonel James Fairfield had donated land to the town in 1828. In 1785 by order of General George Washington, Major General Nicholas Longstreet ordered all British forces out from America unless he received relief from their king; however no relief came and Longstreet died soon afterwards without having been able to put an end to the American Revolution. This caused some tension between England and America over this issue since Britain didn't want their colonies divided up among themselves again like that during the Revolutionary War era; but eventually both sides agreed to negotiate terms leading up to peace treaties being signed aboard HMS 'Prince' off Rhode Island on September 16th 1786 after weeks long warfare that killed more than 250 Americans including many officers and men from both nations combined! It's interesting to note that at least one house still stands in modern day Edison Township dedicated specifically to those who fought in America's Revolutionary War! Aftermath: Upon Longstreet's death most colonists decided not pursue independence any further duelling with Great Britain over control over our colonies- something that would happen later during King George II reigns throughout North America! This event led directly back into conflict between England & America once again- something we still deal with today albeit less violently! In fact English troops even camped inside our borders for years after his death until finally being withdrawn by Royal Order on October 11th 1787!!! Just another example how everything works out thus creating balance & harmony!! Colonel James Fairsfield donated 100 acres (40 hectares) within what is now FairVIEW Borough towards erection of a public schoolhouse where classes commenced on February 1st 1830 under instruction from Reverend John Blythestedt while situated at 'Duncannon' Post Office/Borough Hall located at present day 9 Elm Street East which served as Borough Hall until May 15th 1840 when Borough House burned down leaving 3 students stranded inside while firefighters stood outside watching!! Soon afterwards Captain Samuel Harker laid down plans for erecting a new Public School building using funds provided by Col Fairsfield himself utilizing surplus materials stored away at his home elsewhere within present daysouthwest corner lot 2 feet wide x 6 feet deep & 30 feet long frontage upon lots 3 feet wide x 12 inches deep bearing extreme caution due To High windsocky Conditions prevailing At That Time...from which timeforth Trustees have resided therein From then untilPresent On or about October 15th 1840 Captain Samuel Harker erected said new schoolhouse opposite Parkes Tavern [near current site of Southpark Mall] serving as its original purpose...The old School House burned down circa 1984[but photos taken circa 1990 show structure still standing!]... When the area around Fairview was first settled, it was a remote and wilderness-like place. However, over time, farming and industry began to grow in the area, creating a more urban environment. Today, Fairview is an important community located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. It has a diverse population that includes people from all walks of life. The community is home to several businesses and organizations that have helped contribute to its growth and success. The earliest residents of Fairview were Dutch immigrants who came to the area during the early 1800s. They built their homes on farms which they managed and cultivated themselves. The Dutch language still lingers in some aspects of the community today. In 1834, John Fenton purchased land near Fairview from the Dutchmen for $75 per acre. This became known as Fenton Township because it housed most of the town of FairVIEW at that time. Fenton Township changed its name to Monmouth County in 1912 when it merged with other counties within New Jersey due to statehood changes. At that time, Monmouth County consisted of seven towns: Camden (the county seat), West Orange (a hub for manufacturing and commerce), East Brunswick (later called Edison after inventor George Edison}, Brick working class town (later named Belle Vernon), East Millville ( later renamed Ocean City), Fresh Kills landfill (now part of Newark Liberty International Airport) and Clifton Heights neighborhood on Staten Island). In 1916,Fairview Manor was built on what is now Airmont Boulevard by developers Julius Rosenwald and his son Julius Rosenwald Jr., Sr.. As one of only two remaining mansions left standing in Monmouth County after many others were destroyed during World War IIogenic fires or by freeway construction projects,Fair View Manor remains significant not just as an architectural landmark but also as a living history lesson about howoardlife evolved prior to mass transit becoming available in the late 20th century To this day many descendants continue living there including current owner Alice Bogan who donated it back to government control following Hurricane Sandy damage In 2013 Bogan added a wing specifically for Little League use giving her house even more character for future hurricanes
The early history of Fairview is difficult to pin down, but it likely dates back at least to the time before European settlers arrived in what is now Fairview Township. The first documented mention of the area comes from a document from 1682, which states that the land on which present-day Fairview resides was purchased by Sir George Washington and his group of investors. It's unclear how or when the township was founded, but it may have been established around 1720. By 1750, there were more than 100 residents living in Fairview Township. In 1814,Fairview Township became part of Middlesex County and experienced some growth and development during this time period. In 1825, a school was built in what is now FairVIEW Park and began serving students from throughout Middlesex County. Throughout the 19th century,FairVIEW continued to grow and develop as an agricultural township with a focus on growing crops for local consumption and export. Although agriculture played a large role in early FairVIEW's economy, other industries such as manufacturing and transportation also took root during this time frame. During World War II, FairVIEW again saw some growth as many people came to work in nearby factories during wartime production opportunities. However, due to economic conditions following the war-time recession, most of these businesses closed down within a few years after hostilities ended. Today, althoughFairVIEW has experienced some recent growth (primarily due to population increase) its primary emphasis still remains on agriculture – both through crops grown on its own land as well as products produced by local farmers markets
