Fairview is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 9,811. The name "Fairview" comes from a location on the Delaware River between Camden and Philadelphia where several mills were located. The first European settler in Fairview was John Fairmount who arrived in 1764. By 1800, there were around 150 people living in Fairview. In 1814, the area became part of Hunterdon Township when it was formed from parts of Mercer and Warren counties. The population grew slowly until 1880 when an industrial explosion destroyed many businesses and caused a large rise in crime rates which continued to increase until the late 1990s when they began to decline again. In 1907, FairVIEW was annexed by Camden due to its proximity to Government House (the then-headquarters of the government of New Jersey). In 1916, Hunterdon Township merged with Camden into what is now called Camden County. The annexation had no effect on Fairview's development as it remained within Mercer County until 1970 when it became part of Monmouth County following a boundary change implemented by then-Governor Christie pursuant to an act of the New Jersey Legislature which moved Monmouth from Union City to South Brunswick township for economic reasons related to that township's status as an expanding suburb of Newark.

The borough has a total area of , including (or excluding) its borders with Camden and East Rutherford Boroughs. As of May 2013, Fairview's residents were living in 2,718 homes and 575 businesses within its borders. As of the 2000 census there were 6,521 people in Fairview Borough who identified themselves as White or European American (91% of all residents). Black or African American (12%) made up 2% of all residents while Asian Americans (4%) accounted for 3% of all residents. Hispanic or Latino Americans made up 11%of all residents while 5% identified as Italian Americans and 4%identified as Portuguese Americans

The area that is now Fairview was originally part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1724, the British took over the Dutch colony and renamed it New Jersey. The first English settlers were also called New Jerseyans and located along the Susquehanna River. In 1764, after a dispute between Great Britain and France over control of North America, New Jersey became part of British America.Fairview was incorporated as a town on April 14, 1834, from portions of Bergen Township and Elizabeth Township.
