Fairview was a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States that is now part of the city of Camden. During the Revolution, Fairview became an important base for munitions production and served as a staging ground for forces fighting against British troops. After the war, Fairview lost its status as a thriving community but it has since seen resurgence in recent years as a bedroom Community for Camden residents. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Mercer County were Dutchmen who arrived around 1720. They built cabins on what is now known as "Dutchman's Point" on Little Egg Harbor River. The name of their settlement was changed to Fairfield after they moved there from Hartford, Connecticut which had been conquered by British forces during the war. The colony prospered because it exported goods such as flour and other items to England and also received military supplies from Britain. However, when the war ended and English rule over America resumed, things changed dramatically for Fairfield because many of its citizens decided to stay in America rather than return home with their families during wartime shortages. This decision paid off handsomely for the community because within fifteen years it had reached its peak population size with over 500 people living there directly or through partnerships with other settlements nearby including Easton (now called Allentown), West Chester (now Reading), Widener (now Bethlehem), and East Brunswick (now Glassboro). During this time period, race relations were still developing rapidly throughout much of North America so events such as these at Dutchman's Point created tension among European settler groups which ultimately led to violence and conflict within communities across America later on in the century .
