In 1863 Captain James Henshaw organized a small arms competition at Ewing’s Mills in Middlesex County which is still considered one of the most prestigious sporting events in New Jersey history today! This event attracted top talent from all over America as well as Europe! The event was so successful that it was decided to hold it annually throughout New Jersey! Since then, many famous competitions have been held at Fairview: The annual NJ Open Championship; leading marksmanship championships both state-level (Henshaw Trophy)and national level (USASA World Championships), numerous target matches against various targets around town (e.g., Dutch Reformed Church targets), rifle shoots at local ranges (e.g., West Side Rifle Factory Range), air pistol matches between friends or family members, etc… It is no wonder that Fairview has become known as America's "Miniature Arms Capital".

Fairview is a town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Middlesex-Union Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Fairview comes from Mount Fairview, located in the town's center. The mountain was sighted by Captain John Smith in 1714 and named for him because he found valuable Chestnut trees on its slopes. In 1837, a group of settlers from Maryland founded the small community of Farmington in what is now Fairview Township; Farmington became an incorporated township in 1872. In 1849, a group of Dutch farmers who had arrived in New Jersey started to establish a farmstead called Oude Burcht (Old Burgh), which still stands today within the boundaries of modern Fairview Township. The first Post Office at Old Burcht was established on April 1, 1850; it was renamed Farmington after the town it served and remained in operation until 1918. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender and victory over Germany, many Japanese military personnel moved into and settled near Newark during 1946-1947 as part of postwar demobilization efforts. This area now includes East Orange and some parts of Camden Township including Lawnside Terrace and Spring Lake Park neighborhoods within FairVIEW borders In 1948, when Interstate 95 was completed through Mercer County, most residents choseNottingham Avenue as their main road artery instead of using Main Street as their primary route due to fears that I-95 would damage or even destroy historic communities like Farmington/FairVIEW if they changed routes
