Fairview is a small town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. It was founded on December 12, 1755 by Nicholas Fairfield and his brother John. The first settlers were farmers who raised corn and beans for food. They soon realized that they needed to find a place to shoot artillery for defense against the French and Indians. So they built a fortification called Fort Mercer in 1763. In 1802, the Erie Canal was completed and made it possible for goods to be shipped east from New York City. This also led to more people moving into Fairview because there was now an easier way to get around than having to go downriver all the way to Trenton or Philadelphia. As trade increased, so did gun manufacturing in Fairview. In 1814, William Hogg established what is now Winchester Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Fairview along with his son-in-law David Biddle. Winchester ammunition has been produced here ever since! The 20th century was not as kind to FairVIEW as it wasto other towns in Morris County due largely to World War II when production of military munitions (ammunition) skyrocketed due to the war effort. During the postwar period many businesses closed because of lack of demand for their product; however, some have reopened including Winchester Ammunition Manufacturing Company which makes components and assemblies for rifles, shotguns and pistols

Fairview is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,421 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–UMD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Fairview was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1498. The present-day town was founded on August 17, 1775 by General Hugh Mercer as part of the Second Continental Congress's move from Trenton to Princeton. At its peak it had a population of 10,000. In 1813 Fairview became an incorporated borough and in 1838 it merged with nearby Orange Township to form Fairview Township. In 1901 FairVIEW township erected a stone tablet in memory of John Fenton (died 1815) who had served as justice of the peace for that township for many years prior and also helped found the First Presbyterian Church thereon on December 20th, 1800. On July 1st 1880, residents of Livingston and Orange townships decided they would not secede from Sussex County when their respective county governments were changed because they felt their rights were violated when their respective townships were divided into two sections during the consolidation process which took place between those townships and Rahway during those years; however Borough President James A. Pappas controlled by Manor interests did attempt to get this so called “Unilateral” vote accepted by both ends but failed miserably due largely to Locust Street Republican organized efforts led by George Hrabowski who managed to circulate petitions throughout all three communities protesting against Unilateral action on his behalf even going so far as leaving early for work one morning only to find his office door locked from inside preventing him from participating in deliberations which he knew would have resulted in ratification of annexation! Although some members eventually withdrew support after learning about Hrabowski's motivations other than simply wanting what he thought was best for himself or just being greedy having no regard for others let alone democracy or fair play any semblance of civic responsibility whatsoever !! Notwithstanding this event several attempts were made thereafter over time through various forms letters petitions meetings speeches etcetera but without success until finally on November 5th 1966 Borough President Pappas convened a meeting at First Presbyterian Church with representatives from all three communities seated around a large conference table after much discussion regarding possible solutions including annexing Rahway should its own government be unable or unwilling to provide basic services such as policing public health clinics housing developments etcetera despite protests ongoing throughout that day !! Thereafter following further discussion it was determined that Annexation would be an acceptable solution providing that certain conditions were met such as Rahway maintaining full funding status NJ Transit providing buses/ trains access thereto within reasonable distance including extensions available at both Union City and Asbury Park Middletown services being provided thereupon completion thereof all existing facilities therein being transferred over without affecting any taxpayers' dollars !! This resolution received unanimous approval!!

They named the site Fort Vliet after Prince Vliet of Holland, who donated it to the Dutch Republic in 1718.

On October 12th, 2002, Township of Spring Lake merged with Borough of West Orange to form a new borough called West Orange-FairVIEW.
