However by 1930 only 1/3 (1 out of 14)ofjerseycity residents lived in Fair Lawn with most residing within either Maplewood or Roseville which were respectively adjacent municipalities then formed from parts of Trenton and Camden shorelines.) The first permanent settler was Johannes de Jonge, who arrived in 1630. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1709, George Washington and his group of soldiers stopped at Fair Lawn for dinner before continuing their journey westward.
