Fair Lawn, New Jersey is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough had a population of 44,711. The name Fair Lawn comes from two settlements: one in 1727 by Loyalists who fled to America and another in 1824 by farmers who emigrated from Great Britain. The original name of the borough was Hummelstown after Johan Simon Hummel who settled there in 1684. In 1847 Fair Lawn was incorporated as a township by an act of the Legislature. The first inhabitants of what is now Fair Lawn were Swedes and Germans who emigrated to America during the early 1800s. They built log houses on a bluff overlooking Lake George which they called "Hummel's View". In 1830, Congregationalist minister Ebenezer Brown bought land at present-day Mount Laurel and built what is now the church known as Brown's Meeting House on it. He named his property "Fair Lawn" after his home country – Sweden. By 1840 about 100 people lived in Fair Lawn; many of them were farmers with families that raised sheep and hogs. Many Dutch Settlers also came to America during this time period and some began farming here replacing their farm animals with horses or donkeys which gave rise to the term "Penny Lane." In 1847, when township status was granted to Fair Lawn by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature, John Prentice laid out a town plan for what would become Fair Lawn including most of present day Mount Laurel Township east side (northwest corner), much of today's East Hanover Township (southwest corner), parts of Ridgefield Township (northeast corner) and West Long Branch Township (southwest corner). The boundaries for these townships were based on those then existing within Middlesex County: Hackensack Creek flowed into Monmouth County from Pennsylvania across Princeton College before turning south near Bound Brook; Woodstock Creek ran its entire course within Bergen County before joining Delaware River just north of Princeton University; Old Bridge Road formed part of Princeton College's boundary before veering southwest along Newark Bay until reaching Van Cortlandt Avenue near Rutgers University; while Potteries Road formed partof Bound Brook’s boundary between Newark City proper and South Orange Township before turning southeast towards Englewood Cliffs Boulevard where it crossed over Trainor Avenue into Livingston than continued south parallel to Route 29 until reaching Ridgewood Avenue just northeast of Parsippany Hills High School today’s Ridgewood Park Community School District #2 headquarters building located at 210 Ridgewood Ave SE

Fair Lawn is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first inhabitants of what is now Fair Lawn were Lenape Native Americans who lived on the banks of the Hackensack River. In 1614, English colonists founded a settlement at Perth Amboy, which became known as Fair Lawn because it offered fair ground to trade with the Indians. Dutch settlers arrived in1624 and named their new community "Watervliet", after their trading post on the Watervliet River in Holland. In 1764, during the American Revolutionary War, patriot militia General John Burgoyne ordered his troops to cross over from Canada and attack Fort Lee on Long Island (now part of Manhattan). When they reached New York City, Burgoyne's forces encountered units under George Washington's command led by Colonel Nathanael Greene at Nyack Bridge (now called Fort Orange). After a brief battle that saw some casualties on both sides but no damage done to either fortification or troops, Burgoyne withdrew his forces back across the Hudson River without losing any casualties. On February 27th, 1765, during King George III's coronation ceremony in London as monarch of Great Britain and Ireland, an estimated 10-15 thousand people attended a public audience at Whitehall Palace where he was knighted by then-Prince Regent George IV. As part of this event various dignitaries including Admiral Rodney came through London bearing gifts for king – among them one small crate filled with 5 tons of Indian corn that had been brought downriver from Canada that day! This sojourn into high society marked another important milestone for Fair Lawn as its residents soon became well-known throughout British Empire for their participation in such events and commerce. In 1839 Fair Lawn became township No 1 within Middlesex County when it was created following approval by voters via referendum; it remained township status until 1974 when it merged into neighboring Rahway Township due to population growth rates statewide combined with lack of space within township boundaries (later renamed Union Township). The township name has been used only sporadically since then and currently honored only upon special occasion such as hosting summertime carnivals there or hosting state championships like soccer or track & field events there; most notably during 1984 when Union Township celebrated its centennial anniversary with a parade through downtown Fair Lawn followed by a picnic lunch at Piscataway Park before festivities continued at Rahway Park nearby until midnight that night! 2MILIONAIRES LIVE IN NJ "Fair Lawn: A History" written by Annette Goodrich published online October 2nd 2018
