In 1978-1979 PPG Industries erected a large electronic manufacturing plant adjacent to HAHSScampus that produced components for several major automakers including Chrysler Corporation and GMC Corporation.. In 2000 Wackenhutting Associates erected a large paper products manufacturer next door to HAHSScampus that produced envelopes and other household items until it closed down due primarilyto environmental concerns.. The last major employer left Fair Lawn when Hess Paper Products discontinued operationsin2006 after more than 30 years . Today very few residents remain within walking distance or driving rangeof any typeof commercial establishments except small convenience stores which have closed down or been replaced by fast food restaurants over time .
