Englewood is located in Morris County, New Jersey, and it has been a community for over 100 years. The area that makes up Englewood was first settled by European colonists in the late 18th century. It became an incorporated town in 1903. In 1960, Englewood was annexed by Paterson and merged into the city of Paterson. In 1967, Englewood lost its independent status and became part of the larger city of Paterson. Today, Englewood is a diverse community with a population of over 30,000 people who are composed of both white and black residents as well as Hispanic and Asian residents. The history of Englewood can be traced back to 18th century European settlers who arrived in what is now Morris County. One of these settlers, Nicholas Slade, founded a small cabin on his farmstead in 1792. By 1800, Slade had purchased land east of present-day downtown Englewood from Indian Chief Johnstown Manor.
