Englewood was founded by Scottish immigrants in 1795 as a farmstead on the east bank of Englewood Creek. In 1824, it became an incorporated village and in 1847 a boroughship. On May 14, 1880, it became one of ten townships within Bergen County and on January 1, 1898 it became a city. Englewood's mayor from 1899 to 1912 was John P. Quinn; its first mayor pro tem was James J. Lynch Jr.. From 1925 until its merger with Hackensack on February 26, 1961 to form Englewood-Hackensack Township (renaming later Edison Township), Englewood had no Mayor Pro Tem term and all decisions were made by the township board of trustees which consisted of three members each. The city boundaries changed several times over the years - initially they extended to encompass all of Hackensack Township before that township decided not to join the merged municipality; finally they shrunk back to their original limits before Raton Borough decided to annex part of them in 1988 - but overall Englewood has always been inside the borders of Bergen County Municipality No. 2. Englewood is a town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,554 at the 2010 census. Englewood is one of two towns in Bergen County that are both located on the Hackensack River. The other town is Mahoning Valley. The first Englewood settlers arrived around 1800 and were farmers and traders who built stockyards and found business opportunities in the fur trade. By 1825, Englewood had a post office, school, and churches. In 1837, developer James Mifflin founded the city of Englewood on land he purchased from the Lenape people near what is now Easton Township. In 1848, officials moved the city to its current location on Prospect Avenue in what was then part of Englewood Township. In 1875-76, developers bought additional tracts of land within present-day Mahoning Valley for development into an agricultural township called Northumberland Township which would become part of Bergen County when it was created in 1903. While Northumberland Township developed as an agricultural community with mills and farms adjacent to streams that supplied irrigation water for fields throughout much of rural Bergen County (the area later became known as "northjersey"), little occurred in or around Englewood until after World War II when growth picked up due to numerous factories moving into the township from outside of New Jersey – especially during wartime when new production facilities needed large amounts of water availability close by for cooling stability reasons alone! As late as 1978 there were just 8 homes listed for sale in unincorporated portions of Mahoning Valley north of Kingston Pike while all but 2 properties withinEnglewood had been sold since 1945! This resurgence can be traced back to a 1966 article published by columnist Irving Kristol which advocated suburbanification (i.e., creating municipalities with high levels of employment density) across much Greater New York City while concurrently urging residents inside those boroughs – mostly Jews – to move out into newly annexed areas like Newark and Paterson because they soon would become too expensive to maintain withoutinside access to jobs available only within those boroughs… thus fulfilling Kristol's prophecy that inner city blight would spread like white fire through orange neighborhoods before eventually spreading southward through Newark towards Passaic Junction whereupon it would effect Camden Yards; finally spreading inland via West Orange until finally reaching Paramus before touching down again along Easton Pike near today'senglewoodschool! On October 26, 1814, Englewood Township was formed from portions of Middlesex County. The township has a population of today of over 114,000 people. The first house in the township was built on what is now the corner of First and Second streets. The first settler in Englewood Township was Abram Senter. He erected a log cabin on the site in 1819.
