Englewood is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 28,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Crossings metropolitan area. The first Englewood settlement was reported in 1792 as "Englewood Township". The name was derived from Dutch Engeland and Old English hingelewad (place of gathering). In 1814, during the American Civil War, General Robert E. Lee's army passed through Englewood on their way to Battle of Gettysburg. Union soldiers were local residents who helped carry rifles and ammunition for the Confederate Army. In 1868, George Washington Carver settled in what is now Englewood; he started a small grocery store there and named it after his home state of Georgia. Carver's supermarket remains open today as one of the few remaining independent retailers in Northeast Jersey shopping areas like Secaucus and Paramus. In 1926, when Englewood became an incorporated municipality, it renamed itself after Orville Noyes Webb – one of its own original developers – because he had been instrumental in helping to secure incorporation for the borough. Webb Avenue runs through heart of town from west to east with many restaurants and nightlife venues located along its length including several theaters which have screensavers running throughout the day next to them! The development of H.C.K.'s began in the early 1990's when engineers at Ford Motor Company were looking for a way to increase the range and payload of their trucks and buses. They came up with the idea of using two high-capacity lead acid batteries in series to create a single electricalload capable of charging multiple batteries at once. This new system wasinitially called "ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM" (EPS) and it was first demonstrated on an F-150 truck in 1995. Since then, H.C.K.'S have become standard equipment on many Fremont Motorsports models including our Racers, Super Stock motorcycles, and other performance vehicles H.C.K.'S work great with any lead acid battery including: 2 or 3 volt autos, gasoline engines (gasoline powered generators are not compatible), cordless tools/hammers/pneumatic drillrers, solar panels etc...

Englewood was born on April 1, 1837, in the town of West Milford, New Jersey. The community was originally called Englewood Township and was named for Nicholas-Jacques de la Roche Englewood (1688-1755), a French Huguenot nobleman who emigrated to America in 1701. In 1834, the township became an incorporated village. On March 14, 1865, Englewood became a city when it amalgamated with nearby Paramus and East Rutherford.
