On October 15th 1912 Englewoods first professional baseball game took place against Oneonta at Park Avenue Grounds attended by over 21000 spectators who witnessed one of America's earliest professional sports competitions; this event would later be immortalized in documentary film through Spring Training games played at Wrigley Field between teams such as the Cubs and Giants throughout that season also captured on video for future generations The name "EngleWOOD" comes from two sources: Firsthand accounts report that Elijah Andrews proposed using "New Amsterdam" (now Newark) as his new town site because he believed that if people got excited about their new town they would help maintain other nearby towns; secondly, Edward Haddon called his new village "Englee-Wood" after he discovered an area near where he lived that bore this name . ENGLEWOOD remained largely unchanged for more than 120 years untilPHILIP JONES PLACE WAS BUILT IN THE 1990S TO REPLACE THE LAST OF THE ORIGINAL MANY SCHOOLHOUSES IN THE COMMUNITY . That building still stands today across from PS1 Middle School adjoining ENGLEWOOD High School - PHILIP JONES PLACE TODAY CONTAINING MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF ENGLEWOOD HISTORY! Phil Jones Place served as home to various local government departments before being vacated in 2007 for plans for a high school expansion which included demolition of all but one structure inside Philipsburg Public Schools complex - now known as Phillipsburg Borough Hall - resulting in much outcry and protest among residents surrounding PHILLIPSBURG STREETS AND PEPPERSTOWN ROAD fronting PHILLIPSBURG PUBLIC SCHOOLS! After months of public hearings and input from neighbors numerous changes were made including placing a bypass aroundPhillipsburg Borough Hall directly impacting many homes neighboring Phillipsburg streets without any input or vote by ANY OF THEResidents!!! finally after more than $200K worth of engineering work had been conducted including removal/replacement of most exterior walls & installation of metal roofing & windows withinPhilipsburg Borough Hall - unveiled on July 29th 2009 during a ribbon cutting ceremony overseen by Mayor Joe DiMaggio - Phil Jones Place again serves as home to various local government departments before being vacated for plans for a high school expansion which included demolition of all but one structure inside Phillipsburg Borough Halls complex - now known as Phillipsburgh borough hall

The township was divided into lots on February 3,1868 and annexed by what is now Englewood Borough. On October 14, 1892, it became part of New York City. The first Mayor of Englewood was Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschelman. In 1947, Engelwood adopted its current name after merging with Haddon Heights Township which had also been established that year as a merger between two adjacent townships: North Paramus (later West Paramus) and South Haddon Heights (later East Haddon Heights). The borough has had three mayors: Abraham Joshua Heschelman (1947-1949), Abe Cohen (1959-1963), and Milton Shriver III (1980-1983). In 1990–1991 there were four mayors with different terms: Edward Koch (1990–1992), John Liu (1991–1993), Richard Minkowitz (1993–1995), and James McGinley Jr. (1995–1999). On November 6th 2005 Englewood voters passed an ordinance increasing their minimum wage from $7/hour to $10/hour effective January 1st 2006 . This increase took effect over time for those who made less than $7/hour beginning January 1st 2006 . As such this increase affects about 95% of workers in township
In 1821, Englewood was founded by Nicholas Biddle. It became a borough in 1834 and a city in 1912.
