The Englewood Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club's first gun was an old-fashioned percussion cap rifle. In 1928, the club became one of the first in New Jersey to offer courses in shotgun shooting. In 1938, the club moved from its original home on Second Street to a new building on Maple Avenue. In 1951, the club became affiliated with the American Rifle Association and moved its headquarters from Englewood to Arlington Heights. In 1981, the NRA donated land for a new rifle range at Englewood High School which continues to be used by the club today. The Stroud Arms company is located in Englewood and provides firearms services to members of the club.
Englewood is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Englewood settlement was in 1795 on land that would later become Englewood Township. A post office called Englewood was established in 1814, and remained in operation until 1959. The borough was formed on December 3, 1896 from portions of what were then Essex and Union townships. On February 14, 1908, the borough became one of two municipalities to be annexed by Newark when that city expanded into its current territory. As a result of this annexation, Englewood became a city within Newark proper for all legal purposes. In 1916, William Jethro Gibbs founded the first paper company in New Jersey with his brother-in-law Harry Kapp as president and Copley Scudder as secretary/treasurer. In 1923 he donated 1 million dollars to create a township high school which opened in 1926 named after him – Gibbs High School (now Booker T Washington High School).

In 1903,Englewood erected its own high school which remains open today as Englewood High School; however, there have been attempts over the years to move the school to different locations within or outside of Bergen County
The township was named after General George Washington and it was organized on February 14, 1814. The first settler in Englewood was Nicholas Biddle.
