Elmwood Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,512 at the 2010 Census. Elmwood Park is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Area. The Elmwood Park community was founded in 1851 as a small farming village near Newark, by John J. Elmwood and his brother Augustus Elmwood. The name "Elmwood" comes from a large sycamore tree on the east side of the town that could be seen from many farms around it. In 1881, James Biddle built what is now known as Delaware Avenue in this community and named it after himself; Biddle Heights later became Elmwood Park. In 1911, David Siegel donated land to the township for educational purposes and named it after him too; Siegel Hills later became Elmwood Park Township. In 1927, William Crouse erected a sugar refinery in this community which made it one of the first places in New Jersey to receive gasoline rationed fuel oil free of charge for local residents.. The refinery was destroyed by fire on July 5th, 1951 but not before producing some interesting artifacts such as an engine still running today that powered an early prototype car design called “Lawn Mower” which was displayed at the annual meeting of the American Car Association on October 15th, 1924

Elmwood Park was a small town in New Jersey, located in the township of Camden. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. Elmwood Park is best known for its Elmwood Cemetery and its ball park which is home to the New York Mets. The community ceased to exist after it was annexed by Camden in 1997. The first record of activity in what would become Elmwood Park comes from 1795 when three farms were bought by Nicholas Douglass, who named them "Elmwood", "Milton" and "Park". In 1836, two families, the Harts and the Ebersalls bought a tract of land that included present-day Elmwood Park from Nicholas Douglass for $2 per acre. In 1872, John J. Stackhouse donated land to the borough of Camden for a new cemetery which became known as Stackhouse Cemetery. The structure was completed in 1875 and contains over 6,000 gravesites. It is one of the largest cemeteries in New Jersey and has been used as a burial ground for politicians and celebrities such as Harry S Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt and Will Rogers. The baseball diamond at Elmwood Park was built between 1909-1911 as part of an effort to improve infrastructure around Camdentowne Center which at that time consisted only of a schoolhouse, some stores and two sets of bars on Market Street between Broad Street and 5th Avenue North (later renamed 7th Avenue North). The ballpark had an area measuring just over 250 feet by 100 feet with a capacity of 10,000 spectators. In 1967, while playing their second game ever at Phillies Stadium against the Baltimore Orioles (now Citizens Bank Park), the Mets played their first ever home game at Yankee Stadium on October 3rd under then manager Billy Beane with newly installed artificial turf playing field called Shea Stadium Field (now MetLife Stadium). That day also saw pitcher Don Larsen's final appearance before his death from pancreatic cancer four days later on October 8th during Game 2 against Boston Red Sox; he would die one year later on October 11th during another Mets game against Boston Red Sox at Shea Stadium Field due to complications from his disease). On July 15th 1969 during their last season at Shea Stadium Field before moving into NEW YORK METS stadium they defeated Philadelphia Phillies 13-4 thanks partly to right fielder Sammy Watkins who hit an inside fastball off lefty pitcher Curt Schilling down low in centerfield; Watkins' homerun scored both games MVP honors becoming just the third player ever to win MVP honors twice while playing for two teams within one season (the others being Mickey Mantle with Cleveland Indians & Boston Red Sox) . One can walk up or down 7th Ave (#5), past Gurney’s general store (& now City National Bank) towards right field past 4 apartment buildings & 5 large trees northeast corner current site OF Great Lakeshore Boulevard
Elmwood Park was formed in 1887 when the Township of Maple Shade and portions of Plainsboro amalgamated. The name Elmwood Park comes from a small wood on the edge of town, which is where many of the original homes were located. The first post office at Elmwood Park was established on October 5, 1887. The current post office building was built in 1928 and is still in use today. In 1911, Elmwood Park became part of the newly created Burlington County municipality. In 1953, Burlington County merged with New Jersey to form thestate of New Jersey.
