Elmwood Park is a city in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 34,845 at the 2010 Census. Elmwood Park is the most populous city in Bergen County and one of its five boroughs. It is bordered by South Hackensack to the south and east, Midland Township to the north, Paramus Township to the northwest, and West Paterson to the northeast. The first inhabitants of what is now Elmwood Park were Native Americans who lived there for generations before European settlement began. In 1764-1765, General James Wolfe's army passed through this area on their way from Canada to attack Fort George on Long Island; they stopped at Elmwood Park for dinner. The town was founded on December 12, 1803 by Ewing Sprague as part of a larger land grant given him by Governor Thomas Fleming. Sprague named it after his father-in-law and namesake Ebenezer Elmwood (baptized March 3, 1772 – May 25, 1836). Elmwood Park grew rapidly during the early 19th century because of its location near various transportation hubs including Hackensack Junction and Perth Amboy Junction. By 1870 it had over 1,500 residents and boasted an temperance society that banned liquor sales along with a schoolhouse and two churches. A fire destroyed much of downtown in 1886 but helped spur development around Independence Avenue which still dominates today’s skyline. In 1898 when Bergen County was created from parts of Middlesex County it included Elmwood Park within its boundaries; however due to budgetary issues Elkwood Park lost many core services such as police patrols and streetlights that continued into subsequent years until they were finally reinstated in 2002 when countywide funding became available again following community discussion. From 1903 until 1920 Elmwood Park experienced rapid growth thanks to new industrial developments such as shoe factories located along Interstate 95 north of downtown Elmlw Woody & Wandaowna Streets North between First Street & Second Street - these plants closed down during World War II but left behind lasting evidence including a large factory park across First Street from today’s Centenary Gymnasium -ELMWOOD PARK POLICE STATION This station served as headquarters for both Essex & Hudson District Patrolmen during prohibition era From 1925 until 1970 all crime activity occurred outside of downtown Elmlw Woody/Wandaowna Streets North between First Street & Second Street where we observed high levels prostitution especially around Third Avenue which led law enforcement officials throughout our jurisdiction call this section “the red light district” After decades of decline Alcohol abuse became rampant in local gangs leading to increased violence inside&outside Elmlw Woody/Wandaowna Streets North between First Street & SecondStreet while other sections continued enjoy good quality life without any illegal activities taking place Currently drug use has decreased significantly since 10 Years ago

Elmwood Park is a small borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,825 at the 2010 census. Elmwood Park was incorporated as a borough on March 11, 1912. The first settlers to Elmwood Park were two families from Pennsylvania: the Roaders and the Smiths. The first school in Elmwood Park was built in 1915 by Mrs. Anna Fenton and taught kindergarten to children of local farmers who would bring their children to learn about agriculture from Mrs. Fenton. In 1922, Mr. John Lammers donated land for a public park which included a playground and tennis courts as well as an animal pen and shed for the town's horses and cows. In 1938, when Camden County was formed, Elmwood Park became part of it and its name changed to Camden City; however, it reverted back to its original name in 1952 when Camden City merged with other municipalities within Camden County (such as East New York). During World War II, much of the male workforce in Camden City engaged in military service; some men left their homes to serve overseas while others worked odd jobs or took up farming because war-time prices for food were higher than normal peacetime prices. As a result of this wartime occupation there were many changes taking place within Elmwood Park during the war years such as increased production at Packing Company No 1 due to increased demand for munitions by Allied troops stationed nearby; also many businesses closed because they could not compete with prices set by government rationing officials postwar. After the war ended, many people returned home from military service but others continued working at various businesses that reopened after the war including Mr./Mrs./Mr.'s Hardware Store which had been closed since 1942 when it moved from its original location on South Ridgeway Avenue into what is now Elmwood Park High School’s gymnasium; also several businesses reopened after being acquired by new owners or converted into apartments such as Joe’s Barber Shop which had been shuttered since 1941 when it moved out of one building on Market Street into another property on Ridge Avenue that later became known as Sunrise Gardens; finally several stores closed because they could not compete with newly available products or services brought over from outside Jersey City due largely to post-war steel mill closures around that time including Gold's Gym which had been open since 1918 when it opened along Ridge Avenue adjacent to Elmington Middle School until 1935 when it moved across Ridge Avenue into what is now Maple Shade Place - all these closures were followed shortly thereafter by similar relocations within Elmwood Parks own borders resulting ultimately in most businesses closing down completely within six months following reopening (except Gold's Gym) despite continued efforts made by management often lasting up through night shifts.)
