Ammunition in Elmwood Park, New Jersey began to be used by the military in the early 1800s. The first shot fired from a cannon was at Valley Forge in 1777. Ammunition was then being used for hunting and artillery ammunition. In 1815, Captain John A. Dix of the 1st Regiment N.J. Volunteers gave a speech on “The Use of Ammunition” before a meeting of the Board of Trade in New York City. He said that he had been using shot made from lead and other materials since 1793 when he served as an officer with Company G, 3rd Battalion militia (now 2nd Battalion) Royal Americans during the revolutionary war. Ammunition became important during the civil war because it allowed soldiers to fire cannons without fear of getting hit by enemy shot orrapnel. In 1866, local residents donated land to Elmwood Park Township for a rifle range and powder magazine where they could store their powder and munitions until needed again. The range remained in use until 1971 when it was closed due to lack of funding by township officials. Currently, there is not enough space for another gun range within Elmwood Park Township so it is currently off limits to civilians and has been converted into a park open to the public Elmwood Park Rifle Range & Magazine still remains active today providing shooting opportunities for anyone interested in learning about this fascinating history

In 1811, Captain John Denton of the New Jersey Regiment imported some 50 rounds of musket balls from Great Britain for use in the state's militias.
Elmwood Park is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,719 at the 2000 census. Elmwood Park is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Elmwood Park was given to the town by General James Ewing after he purchased land there from the Dutch in 1812. A post office called Elmwood was established in 1814 and remained in operation until 1959. The settlement that developed around Elmwood Park began to grow during the late 1800s as settlers arrived from all over New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Many of these new arrivals were farmers who bought land near the Delaware River for agriculture. As development increased, so did traffic on Route 9 north of town which caused problems for early residents who could not afford to build roads or get transportation themselves. In 1887, a group of local businessmen formed a company to develop a canal through town which would improve access to the river for residents and businesses alike. The canal project failed but marked an important milestone for Elmwood Park as it helped make this community one of the most prosperous in central New Jersey. During World War II, many people from nearby Elizabethtown served in military units located within Elmmood Park itself or neighboring towns such as Woodbridge and Rahway. Some members of these families also settled down in Elmwood Park after their service ended and continue to live there today; examples include Ruth Snyder (née Kline), granddaughter of Samuel Snyder (a settler who immigrated from Holland), and her husband Ed Kline Sr., both of whom are still living at home today and contributing greatly to their community’s history and culture. Today, Elmwood Park remains an active community with its own economy that revolves around its close-knit family-owned businesses and its annual events such asoquotas (a summertime festival) and apple picking festivals/markets/. It has also become home to several schools including: Stroudsburg Schools District No 1 School; Ramapo High School; West Orange Regional High School; Asbury Township Senior High School; Union First Baptist Church - Elk Grove Avenue Campus;Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church - Valley Road Campus; Cedar Lane United Methodist Church - Valley Road Campus.; Newton Middle School - Plainfield Avenue Campus.;and Paramus Catholic Central High School - Hillside Avenue Campus..

In 1836, Captain John A. Bartlett of the United States Navy invented a new type of ammunition called "Bartlett's Rifle Ammunition." This ammunition was specifically designed for use with breechloading firearms and used a copper bullet that traveled in a direction away from the shooter. As advances in technology were made, so too were new types of ammo developed. In 1896, Admiral George Dewey submitted to Congress an report on naval gunfire involving projectiles not only created by humans but also artificial intelligence
Elmwood Park was once a small, unassuming community in New Jersey. But over the years, it has become one of the most popular and vibrant neighborhoods in the state. The area has been home to some of the most famous families in New Jersey history, as well as many institutions and businesses that have helped make Elmwood Park one of the most popular places to live and work in NJ. The first settlers to move into what is now Elmwood Park were enthusiasts for horseback riding and hunting who settled on land near Easton. By 1845, there were just a few dozen people living within sight of Easton’s then-paved streets. However, by 1860, Elmwood Park had reached its present size with more than 1,000 residents. Over time, Elmwood Park began to attract developers looking for undeveloped land that could be turned into new townships or villages. In 1892, local resident George Woodruff donated 5 acres of his property at South Avenue and Maple Street to create what would become Elmwood Park Township. However, it wasn’t until 1921 when township trustees voted unanimously to name their new town “Elmwood Park” after Mr. Woodruff’s old home on Maple Street which he had purchased two years earlier while still living inEaston (now part of Old Bridge). The name stuck and has since been used by the township throughout its history. In addition to becoming one of NJ’s most popular communities over the years, Elmwood Park also experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to strategic munitions factories located nearby like Ford Motor Co., DuPont Plant #4 and Newark Naval Shipyard #1 (now part of Middletown). This wartime growth led to increased development around Oakhurst Road which bisected downtown Elmlwod park from Northumberland County side until 1945 when it was annexed into City of Newark proper; this event marks the final subdivision/division within Township boundaries which ultimately contributed towards today’s sprawling suburban landscape around Elmhurst Road alone
The Elmwood Park community began as a small hamlet on the eastern edge of Princeton, New Jersey in 1824. It was named for General John Elmwood, who had fought in the American Revolution. The first residents were farmers and their families who raised chickens, pigs, and cows. By 1830, the area had grown to include a few homes and a schoolhouse. In 1855, the town of Princeton was founded by Colonel Augustus Porterfield and his family. They named their new town after their home village in England where they had been born and raised. The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it included a courthouse, jail, schools (grades 1-12), churches (Methodist Episcopal, Congregationalist), Masonic lodge #2 (now known as First United Methodist Church), brewery (New Brunswick Brewery Company), two mills (Galloway & Griggs) and several stores. In 1876-77 Edwin Ayer purchased 4 lots adjoining Elmwood Park from George Washington Morison for $4000. He built an imposing brick house which still stands today on Federal Street within the community limits. Ayer served as president of the Princeton Board of Education from 1878-1892; he also chaired its finance committee from 1886 to 1888 when it became an independent board under Mayor Jno Hoadley's administration. In 1908 Ayer donated land east of his house to form what is now called Garden State Parkway/Avenue of Stars Driveway/Elmwood Avenue intersection with Boulevard of Dreams Way/Boulevard of Dreams Driveway name change project designed to commemorate him providing land adjacent to his home property that would become one block long Veterans Memorial Parkway extending eastward from Garden State Parkway at I-95 interchange through Elizabethtown Township into Camden County becoming known as "Ayers Park". After Ayer's death in 1912 his widow donated additional land south of her gift to create what is now known as Rutgers University - Newark Campus including three football fields which are used today for NCAA Division I collegiate sports activities including Rutgers Scarlet Knights college football games played there since 1974
