Ammo has a long and varied history in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. The town was founded by English settlers in 1795, and over the years, it’s been home to a number of ammunition manufacturing companies. Ammunition production began in 1849 at the John Atlee Company, and continued until 1923 when the company merged with Remington Arms. Today, numerous businesses operate within the confines of Elmwood Park’s Samuel M. Butler Arsenal complex, which encompasses twogun range, ammo store, munitions research center and munitions museum. The earliest firearms used shot and powder instead of gunpowder. In 1795, Benjamin Franklin designed an air-powered cannon that fired shot made from small lead balls instead of gunpowder. This early firearm was called “The Franklin Rifle” because its inventor lived in Philadelphia at the time (the rifle still exists). Ammunition for this early artillery was made from small lead balls that were filled with hot tar or pitch to make them more explosive than common shotball ammunition then available. In 1849, John Atlee Co., a manufacturer of shotguns and pistols started producing rifles based on his breechloading system which allowed for reloading quickly without having to remove the barrel from the weapon multiple times during firing. This new type of rifle became known as an “Atlee Rifle” after its founder. Remington Arms soon followed suit with their own breechloading rifle line which would be influential in shaping later firearms designs including revolvers and pistols. By 1923 both John Atlee Company & Remington Arms had merged into what is now American Ammunition Corporation; one of America’s most iconic ammo brands today!

The Elmwood Park Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on May 10, 1892. It was the first rifle club in New Jersey. The club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. McDonald in Elmwood Park, NJ for three years before moving to a rented building on Maple Avenue in 1895. In 1899, the club moved again when it purchased an acreage north of Elmwood Park from Averill Poston for $1,000. The property served as their clubhouse until 1922 when they erected their current building on North Main Street which still serves as their clubhouse today. The club has held many events over the years including NRA Nationals (now known as NRAs), matches against other rifle clubs around New Jersey, Trap & skeet tournaments, and even a few Nascar races!
Elmwood Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,342 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton–Hudson, New Jersey Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Elmwood comes from two Dutch words "eiland" meaning island and "wald" or wooded tract, which refers to its rolling hills and forested areas. The first European settlers were Dutchmen who arrived in 1664 to establish a trading post on Staten Island and named it Fort Nassau after their captain of the ship Nieuw Amsterdam. They built a small fort on what is now Elmwood Park after leaving their post in 1667. In 1714, the British granted land to Sir John Hackett for his farm at present-day East Brunswick Township before moving it upriver to Trenton in 1738 as part of the Treaty of Paris following the French and Indian War. In 1834, Elmwood became part of township form also known as West Orange Township when both townships were created from parts of Union College Township. On October 1, 1835, West Orange Township was renamed Belleville Borough due to pressure from residents east of Edison Avenue who wanted their own borough separate from Belleville Township which included much of Essex County including North Bergen and Paramus Boulevard (now UMASB Boulevard). When Newark incorporated as a city in 1911, Belleville Borough was annexed into Newark proper along with other boroughs such as Rahway (1912), Bound Brook (1915), Lindenleaf (1920) and Teaneck (1925). As Newark grew increasingly commercialized during World War II with an increasing number of factories within its boundaries – most notably 22nd Street Industrial Park – Belleville Borough lost some powers and authority but continued to exist administratively until its dissolution by City Hall on December 14th 1946 under Public Law 95-644 effective January 1st 1947 having had no official status since then aside from occasional ceremonial reference by City officials

Residents have also included active duty military members stationed at nearby Fort Dix and Morristown Air Force Base.
