During World War II, The Elmwood Arms Company produced guns for both the United States military and American civilians. Among these productions were rifles such as the M1 Garand and M1917 Enfield sniper rifles; shotguns such as the 12 gauge pump action Winchester Superposed Shotgun (Pump Action Blued) and 18 gauge Remington Model 10 Shotgun; pistols such as handguns made by Colt (such as the .45ACP Colt Pistol) or Smith & Wesson (such as revolvers such as Detective Special). For many years after World War II ended, The Elmwood Arms Company continued to produce firearms including shotguns and handguns under different names until it ceased operations in 1994. The Mayor's proclamation stated "that a park or gardens be particularly erected for the use and enjoyment of all who live within our limits." As early as 1870 there were suggestions for creating large open spaces within walking distance from homes throughout town center; however no action was taken until 1885 when voters passed a proposition authorizing erection of four parks totaling 100 acres each east-west across Second Street from Central Avenue. In 1916 it was proposed that ElkwoodPark merge with neighbouring West Orange so that they could have more space but this proposal also failed to gain support due to differences between the two municipalities over water rights and zoning regulations which would have allowed development on adjacent parcels adjacent to both townships east-west for residences only while leaving open commercial uses unencumbered. In 1922 another proposal surfaced proposing that ElkwoodPark become an independent municipality separate from West Orange with its own government but again this proposal did not gain traction as there were disagreements over funding sources and taxation rates which would have required significant changes to existing ordinances governing local government formation in NJ). In 1957 a referendum was placed on whether or not Elkhorn Lake should be renamed “Lakehurst” after then-Mayor Harry Kappelbachs father who had served as Water Commissioner during prohibition days before eventually dying without having seen any real progress being made towards renaming it after him? Despite receiving nearly three quarters majority yes vote it never happened despite efforts by then-City Manager Donald Haggerty who argued passionately against changing what had been considered toast territory since Prohibition days due primarily to historical associations linking Lakehurst name with Thatchers Brewery property long submerged beneath modern day surface water features now occupied by Garfield High School). It wasn’t until 1990 when Mayor James Saccone approved amending zoning regulations allowing increased densities along Second Street corridorFROM northward forming what is now known Downtown(formerly North End) section while prohibiting any development southward beyond First Street/Central Avenue boundary i thereby providing much needed parking & retail opportunities southwest facing onto Allen Parkway(&southwest side limited industrial /residential redevelopment project currently under construction)). Additionally, there are also several other smaller businesses located within walking distance of various downtown areas which provide additional economic opportunities for locals. Elmwood Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It was formed from part of Perth Amboy Township. The first settlers in Elmwood Park were families who arrived in 1784 from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. In 1828, three brothers founded the Elmwood family grocery store and bakery on High Street in what is now Elmwood Park. The store operated until the early 1900s when it was replaced by the present-day Elmwood Shopping Center which opened in 1968. The town was incorporated as a borough on February 14, 1893, from portions of Perth Amboy Township. On July 1, 1898, parts of Edmunds and Suffern townships were added to the borough; this made Elmwood Park a full township with one governing body. On November 15, 1950, voters passed a referendum to form an independent school district for all residents within the borough; this action created Maple Lane Elementary School District 2 (now Maple Shade Intermediate School District) which operates today along with Englewood Middle School which merged into that district in 2002.
