Elizabeth is a borough in New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough had a population of 26,711. Elizabeth was organized on April 14, 1784 as part of Middlesex County and was named for Elizabeth Fry (1735-1809), an English woman who helped to establish the American Colonization Society in 1787. The first residents arrived in early 1785, and by 1804 there were 1,500 people living in the area. On November 3, 1824, Elizabeth became a city under the name of Newark. The history of Elizabeth dates back to its founding as part of Middlesex County. The area that now makes up Elizabeth was First settled by Dutch farmers in what is now North Brunswick Township on August 29th, 1664. The first town charter was granted on September 20th, 1675 to Peter Stuyvesant and others from Hempstead Township and it was renamed “Newark” after Sir Nicholas Netherlandish Captain John Carleton who led an expedition against the Lenape Indians nearpresent-day Edison NJ on October 24th 1675. In 1784 when Middlesex County was created out of portions of Bergen and Essex Counties this included all present day Elizabeth including land that now forms Rahway River Valley west/southwest of Newark Airport According to the United States Census Bureau ,Elizabeth had a total population of 26,711 as reported by census enumeration districts during 2010–2011

The first reliable and widespread flashlight was the 1851 Colt Single Action Army revolver. This weapon used a revolving cylinder that could hold up to 12 rounds, giving the shooter a strong light source in dark situations. This type of flashlight was later replaced by the model 1888 Winchester Rifle flashlights which were more reliable and had a wider range of use.
Elizabeth was a borough in New Jersey, United States. It was chartered on October 25, 1780, by the New Jersey Legislature as part of the Bergen County region. The population was 5,063 at the 2010 census. Elizabeth is included in the Newark-Raritan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town of Elizabeth was originally settled by Scotch-Irish farmers and their families around 1688. From its establishment until 1873 it lay within what is now Union Township; however, after that date Elizabeth became an entity within Middlesex County. On November 3, 1780, Elizabeth passed from English to American hands when British forces invaded America and captured Fort George on September 13th of that year. The town's charter granted to its founders "a freehold estate within this Borough" with perpetual succession should they marry or die intestate (no children were allowed). Over time much of what characterizes Elizabeth's history took place in neighboring Paramus; however there are a few notable events which occurred in the borough itself - among them being the first election ever held in Bergen County (1824), incorporation as a township on March 9th of 1873 (just four months after Middlesex had become one county), and December 20th 1870 when heavy snowfall caused extensive damage to two schools and a dozen homes. In all honesty I’d have to say that my favorite story about our little town comes from when we had our Christmas party last year - every child who turned eighteen years old got candy canes! Which brings me to my next point: while Paramus may have some great places to eat*, there’s nothing quite like a good childhood tradition! * note: Unfortunately due to legal issues surrounding gift giving restrictions have made this difficult for many residents over recent years
In 1764, Elizabeth became the capital of what is now New Jersey. In 1832, it was renamed Trenton after James K. Trent, a member of the U.S. Senate from New Jersey and one of the architects of the American Civil War. Trenton was an important port during the Revolutionary War and served as a center for trade with Great Britain. The city experienced rapid growth in the 19th century due to its status as a transportation hub and its location along the PATH Line, which made it easy to get around. In 1905, Trenton became part of new Jersey City when that municipality was created from parts of Newark and Camden.
