The Eatontown Rifle Club was formed in 1887, and the first Shootout was held on October 3rd. The club continued to meet monthly until 1911 when it disbanded because of lack of members. The next year, the club reformed and held their third shootout on November 7th. From 1912-1915, the club met twice a month and then every two weeks from 1916-1920. In 1917, the Club moved to its current location at 117 Main Street which was donated by Mrs. Gertrude “Gussie” Healy. At this time, it became known as “The Friendly Gun Club” due to its close relationship with the townspeople. In 1922, after a fire destroyed many of their old equipment, theclubagain reformed but only held their fourth shoot out in 1923 because there were not enough members left for another meeting. In 1925-1926, the club hosted their first international shoots competition called “The Great America Shootout” which pitted American guns against European firearms across three different stages including action shooting (the event that is still considered to be one of the most famous rifle matches). After several years of meetings where no new shoots were organized due to lack of participants or financial difficulties, finally in 1933-1934 an agreement was made between the club and Eatontown Rifle Range which allowed for regular shoots at that range starting September 1st each year with a $5 fee per shooter plus an additional $10 if fired over 100 rounds without being touched by anyone else during registration or shoot outs: these events are now considered annual events celebrated as Eatington Open Shooting Events! Despite having been around since 1887 & hosting Annual Shootouts dating back to 1912 (!), it wasn't until 1934 that Eatontown Rifle Range agreed to allow open fires (& muzzleloaders) & eventually started sponsoring annual rifle tournaments - making Eatontown one of NJ's leading handgun towns! Our manliest citizens have always been those who enjoy target shooting - whether they're actually proficiency shooters or just looking for some good fun!

Eatontown is a town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Easton–Millville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original Eatontown community was established on an agricultural farm by Peter J. Lapp and his family in 1838. By 1860, over 1,000 people had settled there and it became a railroad stop on the Northeast Railroad. In 1905, Eatontown incorporated as a village and within two years had a population of 10,000 residents. That same year saw the opening of its first high school which now serves as the sole educational institution in town. During World War II, Eatontown served as an air-base for the Eighth Air Force and during that time produced many notable citizens including Major General James Nance Garner who was later tapped to lead Allied forces in Europe; Commodore refused to let him leave because he felt that eating ham while wearing his uniform would give away his secret intelligence information; Mayor John Fenton set up a temporary water treatment plant after floods destroyed several other plants nearby; Dr. George Hutton developed Sayre Hospital which became one of America's leading hospitals before selling it to JPMorgan Chase in 1965; Asbury Park Press Gazette Publisher Nathaniel Webb founded The Observer Newspaper Company with $5 000 from his own pocket which helped start what would become one of America's largest free-standing newspapers ; among others were formerMayor Edwin Siegel (served from 1974 until 1984) who cofounded Borough Hall Streetcar Company ; Amongst those honored with plaques or awards at various points throughout their lives are: Dr. Harry Dworkin (received an honorary Doctorate from Rutgers University), Mayor Garner (Distinguished Citizen Award from Monmouth College), Mrs. Garner (Mrs Charles Whelan Memorial Award from Atlantic City Community College), Mr Captain John Pappenheimer (Retired Commodore).
