Eatontown is a town in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,845 at the 2010 census. Eatontown is located on the eastern edge of the township and is bordered by Rahway to the north, Little Falls Township to the east, Willow Grove Borough to the south, and Englewood Cliffs Borough to the west. The name "Eaton" comes from an Englishman who settled in what is now Eatontown in 1784. The first recorded settler was Peter Eaton. Eaton House still stands in what is now Eatontown and it has been preserved as a museum since its creation. The township formate was created on March 15th 1825 when parts of Rahway Township were added to Atlantic County as part of a larger division known as "the Eastward Bound". The original town site lay along present-day Routes 9A and 9B which connected Newark with Princeton Junction on the Delaware River. For many years, Eatontown was considered one of two centers for industry in northeastern New Jersey due to its location near both Indian Pass Toll Road and Canarsie Creek Bridge which linked Newark with Philadelphia and points beyond. However, by 1892 there were only three businesses operating within the limits of present-day Eatontown: one grocery store/canned goods business (founded 1887), one drygoods store (1890), and one millinery shop (1892). In 1896, after being forced out of Newark by combined forces of local residents and federal troops during a conflict known as "the Battle of Nutting's Mill", several small farmers began planting fields around what are now central squares in town center while others erected homes on strategic hills overlooking downtown – this process eventually led to modern day skyscrapers such as One57 Tower sitting atop Killingly Hill today. By 1925 there were over 100 businesses operating withinEatontown’s boundaries including 34 banks total with over $100 million in assets!

eatontown is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 8,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Tinicum–Hammonton Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Eatontown was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. The area that is now Eatontown was originally called "Verrazzano's Settlement" and it was here that he erected a fortification to protect himself from Spanish attacks. When the British captured Fort Mercer in 1776, they burned all of Verrazzano's settlements and stores inside the fortifications as revenge for his attack on their forces. The ruins of these settlements are still visible today as part of the parkland around Fort Mercer. In 1801, when New Jersey became a state, Eatontown incorporated as a village. At first, its residents were just farmers who grew corn, potatoes and other vegetables for their own consumption; however, within five years, there were so many people living inEatontown that they decided to build their own schoolhouse and townhall which still stands today. In 1814, when New Jersey became a state again and Hunterdon County was split into two counties – Morris County north of Bergenfield and Hunterdon south of Passaic – Eatontown chose to remain within Morris County instead of joining either county because it felt that Hunterdon County had been too supportive of Federalist candidates during the Revolution while Morris County had supported the Patriots. This decision not only helped keep Eatontown distinct from other villages within Morris County but also allowed it to stay independent until 1861 when it merged with neighboring Union Township into one municipality under the name "Union Township". The first store opened in Whatcom Mills across the street from where present-day Main Street meets Route 9A (now Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard) on October 6th 1854 by John Haught & Brothers out of what is now known as "The Pavilion." This store served both local residents as well as travelers passing through restaurant on Routes 9A/20 at that time which included later stops at Bellefonte Landing on Lake Erie (later Asbury Park), Nutleyville on Old Mill Pond Road near Raritan Creek State Park (now West Allis Avenue), Wyckoff Heights off Clinton Avenue (now Bloomfield Avenue), Sayreville off Delaware Avenue (later South Sayreville Avenue), Bound Brook off Maple Street (later Weequahic Boulevard) and Willowbrook off Military Road about midway between Bound Brook Village Center and Willowbrook Drive eastbound between Iselin Hillsnorthwest corner dept., Mapleton northwest corner dept., Northumberland southeast corner dept.. In 1861 when Union Township formed from parts of Huntingdon Borough westward along Amboy Road eastward along Bushwick Bayou southward along Railroad tracks northeastward led by Supervisor James Dolan whites only citizens & blacksmiths menial jobs stopped excepting salt production which continued until 1865
Eatontown was founded in 1814 by Yankees who were looking for a place to build their families. The town grew rapidly and by 1849, it had over 10,000 residents. Eatontown became an agricultural center due to its location on the Monmouth River. The town's biggest industry was dairy farming and there are numerous small businesses still in operation today.
