East Orange, New Jersey is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey. The population was 27,812 at the 2010 census. The first European settlers in East Orange were Dutch who arrived in 1608. They named their new settlement "New Netherland". In 1834, East Orange became part of Bergen County as part of a merger of its original municipalities. The borough was re-established as an independent municipality on March 25th, 1911 by an act of the New Jersey Legislature after it withdrew from Bergen County. On December 12th, 1984, East Orange became one of five municipalities within Hunterdon County that merged into Union Township due to population growth in those areas. In 2007, Forbes magazine placed East Orange at number 5 on its list of "The Top 10 Most Affordable Cities To Live In America". According to Census Bureau data released in 2011,[1] there are three schools within East Orange:clairaher Middle School; Edison Memorial Senior High School; and Park Ridge Intermediate School which serve students grades 7 through 11th grade. There are also two parks within walking distance: Euclid Park ( bounded by Maple Avenue and Euclid Street) and Floral Park ( bounded by Elmwood Avenue and Floral Avenue).

As part of efforts to preservation throughout the township, numerous historic buildings have been preserved or are still in use including: The Bankers' Trust Company Building (1902), The Methodist Episcopal Church (1892), Samuel Morse’s Factory (1846), First Presbyterian Church (1901), Beechwood School (1911), MacAfee House (1899), Asbury Park High School (1993) and North Shore Medical Center -East Brunswick Campus(1992).
East Orange is a borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 26,811. It was founded on December 3, 1812 by Captain John Smith and his family as part of the Morristown Township subdivision of Bergen County. The name "East Orange" was chosen for its location on the east bank of the Passaic River, opposite Hackensack and soon after Paterson on the west bank. In 1834, East Orange became part of Bergen County and was incorporated as a borough on May 15, 1835
