East Orange, New Jersey is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,613 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Wilmington-Easton, NJ metropolitan area. East Orange is located on the tidal banks of the Delaware River and forms part of the Philadelphia–Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "East Orange" derived from English settlers who arrived in 1681 as part of an early colonial effort to establish a permanent English presence in what is now Monmouth and Ocean counties. They named their new town after Earl of Essex (1634-1707), one of the original Commissioners for Trade with Europe appointed by King James II in 1687 during his attempt to open up new land to English settlement. During its earliest years, East Orange was a small village situated on the east bank of the river between Newark and Princeton Junction. In 1839 it became one of three townships within Monmouth County when it was formed from parts of Deal and Rahway Township. At that time its population was only 496 people living in 23 square miles (71 km²). The township's population increased rapidly during the 1840s due to heavy immigration from Germany, Italy and other European countries; by 1850 it had reached 1,836 people living in 327 acres (119 hectares) of land including 15 blocks or tracts which were still rural until well into the 20th century. In 1868 East Orange voted to become a Borough; this event signals an increase in civic activity as residents worked together to build their own courthouse and jail – both first built within city limits since Borough status opened up more than 100 years earlier! By 1870 there were over 2,000 residents living in 864 acres (291 hectares) comprising 26 blocks or tracts which are still rural today! Today we continue this proud tradition by establishing our own Parks Department with spectacular views overlooking both Delaware River and Broadwalk downtown – making our borough feel even more like home!

East Orange, New Jersey (population: 27,780) is a town located in Somerset County, New Jersey. The name of the town was chosen in 1814 by Captain James Pemberton and Colonel John Butler as part of the boundary between Middlesex and Monmouth Counties. The first settler in East Orange was Nicholas Fenton who arrived in 1798. In 1800, John Witherspoon built a farm on what is now Chestnut Street. A sawmill was built on the site in 1825. In 1828, Samuel Morse established a post office at present-day East Orange with mail service coming from Philadelphia. In 1839, the first railroad line in New Jersey came to East Orange when the Camden & Atlantic Railway leased a right-of-way from George Washington Bailey to reach Manchester and Newark. In 1846, General George Armstrong Custer appointed Isaac Norris its first postmaster general. In 1865, residents of White Sands Township moved into West Egg Creek Township because their water supply was being cutoff by nearby Rahway Township. That same year, East Orange became an incorporated municipality under state law after voters adopted a resolution urging incorporation. At that time it had a population of only 454 people; by 1870 it had grown to 10,000 people with 3 public schools and 5 private schools serving its citizens. During World War II, East Orange played an important role as an Army airfield due to its location near Bound Brook and Stroudsburg; many planes flew out of here during the war including bombers such as Lancaster flights over Germany On November 6th 1938 local radio station WFUV began playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at 7 p.m., setting off fireworks opposite Roosevelt's Mtn home which lasted until 11 p..M.; this event is also generally remembered as "The Night of Long Knives". After numerous bombings around town during World War II landmarks like Whitman's Pharmacy were destroyed or damaged some believe that someone wantedto make sure no civilians would ever come closeto those places again
The town of East Orange, New Jersey was first settled in 1738. It became a borough in 1868 and was incorporated as a city in 1899. The city is now the fourth-largest municipality in the state of New Jersey with a population of over 208,000 residents.
