Dumont is a small town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,573 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton metropolitan area. The first target holders were set up by local farmers in 1873 as a way to improve shooting opportunities for their livestock and children. Today, target holders are used for many different activities including hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation and competition Shooting events. Dumont Shooters Club has been providing quality targets since 1922.

The first target holders were built in Dumont, New Jersey in 1922. The company that manufactured the targets, Rifleman's Armory, was founded by John H. Quigley and his brother-in-law George Prentice. In 1925, Rifleman's Armory changed its name to National Sporting Goods Company and began manufacturing steel targets for use at rifle range competitions. In 1934, NRA member Eugene Stoner registered the company with the US Patent Office to produce wooden shooting targets. From 1935 until 1949, NRA member James Fenton produced aluminum target holders for use at rifle range competitions.
Dumont is a small town in northeastern Jersey, United States. The population was 5,871 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Bergen County borough of Englewood and is adjacent to Hackensack, which has a population of 11,724. Dumont has a deep-water port on the River Lee that serves as its main commercial center. The first European contact with the area may have occurred in 1608 when Dutch colonists from New Netherland landed near what is now Dumont and built Fort Nassau. In 1764, George Washington surveyed land for the Continental Army at Dumont beach and named it for General James Dumont (1725-1795), one of his generals during the American Revolution. The first post office in Dumont opened on November 12, 1836. In 1855, a group of farmers led by Denton Elbridge founded Elmira College in Englewood Township; this college later became Rutgers University–Newark. After World War II, many manufacturing jobs closed in Dumont due to new technology advancements such as plastics and aluminum production plants moving into other towns throughout NJ during that time period. However, some businesses such as AIGUSA Insurance still thrived until they closed down around 2006 due to financial difficulties caused by global economic recessionals Since then there have been numerous efforts made to revive or redevelop portions of town including: Heckscher Neighbors Group's effort to purchase an acreage just east of town off Route 3 across from Heckscher Elementary School; plans by developer Jesse Rothrock Jr., son of local real estate magnate Jesse Rothrock III., to build a mixed-use development called "Township Park" on about 8 acres purchased from Lehman Brothers nearly 10 years ago; and most recently township trustees' decision last year to begin work on developing a new high school which would serve both Englewood Township students and residents who live west of Route 3 within walking distance

The first target holders began to be made in the early 1800s. However, they were not very effective and did not last long. They were replaced by more effective devices in the mid-19th century. The targets that were used for Shooting at Archers Practice most commonly consisted of a wooden stake with a metal point at one end. The shooter would hold the stake between their thumb and first two fingers, and shoot at the target using this device.
Dumont is a borough in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Dumont was founded by Sir John Dumont and his settlers in 1764. The name comes from the French for "mountain" and "valley." The first settler in Dumont was John Dumont who arrived in 1764 with his family from England. He built a cabin on what is now State Street and also developed an oil refinery near present-day Main Street. In 1814, Joshua Youngs established another cabin on what is now Milton Avenue in what is today North Dumont Township and began trading goods with the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1824, George Washington Bradley settled in what is today West Dumont Township along with James Tatham and others to develop land that became Bradley Hill Countryside Farms which later became Bradley Park Nature Preserve. In 1828, Abraham Lincoln came to America as a passenger on the ship "Hudson" and landed at Weehawken Cove on Long Island before being transported to Manhattan where he met Commodore Henry Hudson who showed him around Harlem Harbor. After returning toAmerica aboard the HMS Discovery, Lincoln contracted smallpox which led to his death at age 44 on April 14, 1829 at Trinity Churchyard next door to Albany Hospital where he had been baptized two months earlier as George Washington Burruss Jr.. His body lay unburied for days before being moved into unmarked graves near Harriman & Livingston Streets until it was discovered that some of his bones could be reinterred beneath a home there! On July 7, 1830 – almost 50 years after his death – granite marker erected by members of the local community announced that Abraham Lincoln had died “on this continent under these favorable circumstances” aged 44 years 6 months 8 days! Dumont began its ascent up municipal government when David Levy became Mayor in 1895 after winning election on an issue platform supporting public education while opposing private school tuition hikes through state legislation then extant (the so-called Carey Amendment). Levy quickly made friends within city hall – among them future mayors Robert Fenton (1910-1915) and Fiorello La Guardia (1917-1923) – building relationships that would last well into their careers. A spurs for growth came when Levy named one of Newark’s first parks after himself: Lafayette Park across from City Hall.) During World War I Heywood Broun served as mayor pro tempore; upon Broun’s retirement effective November 3, 1920 Andrew Johnson took office as mayor pro tempore until May 15th 1924 when he was succeeded by Maurice Sheehan who served out the rest of Johnson’s terms (March 3rd 1925 - February 5th 1929). After general elections held November 2nd 1928(Andrea Mitchell won), she resigned effective January 1st 1929 due to her husband Woodrow Wilson having been elected President less than 4 weeks earlier….she resumed her duties as Municipal Judge starting January 10th 1929…..much later she retired from all judicial work effective June 30th 1984….. Dumont was founded in 1746 by John Dumont and his brothers. It became a part of New Jersey in 1803. The town was burned down twice, but it was rebuilt each time. In 1842, the town became a borough. In 1907, the borough merged with East Paterson to form the current municipality of Dumont.
