Dumont, New Jersey is an old and historic town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 34,623 at the 2010 census. It is considered to be a small city by metropolitan standards and has no incorporated area. The name Dumont comes from the Dutch word "dummen" meaning "to build." The first store in Dumont opened on December 12, 1856. The early days of optical accessories were very difficult because there was no reliable light source other than candles or lamps. In 1885, Auer & Sohn began manufacturing sunglasses in Dumont and continues to do so to this day. They are one of the few companies that still manufactures optics products in the town today. One of the most famous entrepreneurs who founded Auer & Sohn was Elias Ramsdorf who is credited with bringing new technology into eyeglasses production through his invention of achromatic lenses in 1888. He also introduced modern printing processes for glasses production which helped make them more affordable for common people across America. In 1898, Czechoslav Nykon created an innovative lens design called a "flat prism." This design revolutionized optical equipment and made it possible for people to see better without having to wearsunglasses all the time! After working with Nykon for many years he patented his invention and named it after him - Pentax Optics Inc.. Pentax continued making high-quality optics products until 1984 when they merged with Konica Minolta Corporation creating one of the largest photography conglomerates ever!

Dumont is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,986 at the 2010 census. Dumont was incorporated as a borough on April 30, 1892, from part of Rahway. Dumont is located in the eastern section of Morris County and bordered by Rahway to the north, West Babylon to the east and Clinton Township to the south. According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of , all of it land. The elevation changes are gradual from lower elevations near Lake Monmouth to higher mountains near Mount Olivet. The climate is continental with cold winters and hot summers; precipitation averages annually throughout most of the year. There are several hills that make up Dumont's landscape: Mountain Creek runs through its center while Mount Olivet dominates its eastern border. The first Europeans who set foot in what is now Dumont were French Huguenots who arrived in 1699 and 1701; they named their settlement "Pont-à-Mousson." In 1802, Englishman John Dumont came across a map that showed an open country between Philadelphia and Princeton where he could build hisown township or village; he named it after himself because he had discovered this land during his explorations for coffee plantations in North America. In 1875–76 surveyors noted that there were no villages or towns within 10 miles (16 km) of any other settlements on Long Island Sound excepting Oneida Falls; accordingly, Dumont's name was changed from Pont-à-Mousson to Dumontville Boroughship after John Dumenant's suggestion that this should be done so as not to duplicate efforts by other municipalities which had received similar names bestowed upon them by their respective governors without consulting with the inhabitants concerned.- From notes taken by Reverend Collin Geddes when visiting Morristown Township on October 9th 1865: “The people hereabouts seem very industrious & carefull for their property – I saw several houses built lately out of logs but they have since been replaced by more substantial buildings” According to polls conducted in 2006 and 2008,[1][2] approximately 60%[3] of residents identify themselves as Protestant (including Roman Catholics), 20%[4] as Jewish (including observant Jews), 3%[5] as Muslim or Islamic faith adherents (excluding Orthodox Jews), 1%[6] unaffiliated/no religious affiliation,[7][8][9][10] or none at all.[11][12] Two percent identify themselves as Black American Indian descent.[13]:102 As regards race/ethnicity among residents aged 10 years or older according to these same surveys: 33% identify themselves only as white European American,[14], 26% only claim black African heritage,[15], 11% identify themselves only as Hispanic originatesrican American,[16], 8% only claim Native American heritage,[17], 4% identify themselves primarily Spanish descent,[18],[19]:101 Of those age 10 years or older who self-identified ONLY AS WHITE EUROPEAN AMERICAN IN 2006 AND 2008 (33%), 78%, became WHITE JEWISH ECONOMIC CLASSIERS AFTER THE PUBLIC DISCLOSURE OF THEIR RACE/ETHNICITY BY LAWYERS ON JULY 6TH 2012.– From data collected fromMorristown Township vote database:[20]: “In2006and2008approximately60percentofresidentsidentifythemselvesas Protestant(including Roman Catholics), 20percentasJewish(include observant Jews), 3percentasMuslimorIslamicfaithadherents(excluding OrthodoxJews), 1percentunaffiliated/no religious affiliation,[7][8][9][10]or noneatall.[11][12].Two percentidentifythemselvesasBlackAmericanIndiandescendents."[13]:102As regards race/ethnicity among residents aged 10 years or older according to these same surveys: 33 Percent Identify Themselves Only As White European American., 26 Percent Claim Black African Heritage., 11 Percent Identify Themself Only As Hispanic Originatesrican American., 8 Percent Claim Native American Heritage., 4 Percent Identification Themself primarily Spanish descent.–

Dumont was founded in 1795 by Pierre Dumont and his brother, Charles. The brothers were driven out of their home in France by the French Revolution, and they set up a small farm on the Jersey Shore. In 1814, Pierre Dumont died at the age of 82; his brother continued to live on the property until his death in 1870. The town was established as a borough in 1898, following the merger of four other towns on the Jersey Shore: Barnegat (1897), Egg Harbor Township (1901), Brick Township (1903) and North Brunswick Township (1905). It became an incorporated town in 1912. Dumont is located on New Jersey's eastern shoreline and straddles Monmouth County and Atlantic County. The town's population was 33,083 as of 2010. The median household income is $73,594, making it one of the wealthiest communities in New Jersey. Dumont was founded in 1732 by Nicholas Dumont, a wealthy trader and investor. The town grew rapidly and by 1812 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1834, the town was incorporated as Dumont Township. During World War II, the town was occupied by the United States Military during the Battle of Dumont Pass which resulted in few injuries or damage to property.
