In 1932, John Brown & Sons merged with another company, Sturm Ruger & Co., to form the world’s largest handgun producer. Sturm Ruger continued to produce quality handguns until 2016 when they announced their retirement from the handgun market altogether.

Dumont is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hackensack–Middlesex–Union metropolitan Statistical area. Dumont was named for Pierre-Simon Laplace and François Dumont, two Frenchmen who explored America in 1768 and 1769, respectively. The first permanent settler in Dumont was Captain John Smith in 1664. In 1814, a group of Irish emigrants from County Sligo arrived at Dumont after being deported from America by the British government. They laid out a town on what is now Ulysses Road near where the Post Office now stands. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 had a school and gristmill as well as a ferry to cross the Hudson River to get to New York City. In 1856, an act of Congress made Dumont an incorporated municipality with a vote of 3-2%. Its municipal office were located at present day Main Street (then called "Old Route 22") before that moved to its current location on Cherry Hill Avenue in 1881 when it became part of Union Township. On July 1, 1960, Hunterdon County merged into Union County; however, due to resident preference both towns continued to operate separately as Boroughs until January 1st 1971 when they both became municipalities again under the new county organization system effective that date. A post office has been established at Dumont since October 14th 1840 which served residents until it closed on December 14th 1898 due to lack of mail service from New York City during the Spanish American War years when most shipping stopped sailing upriver because of US blockadeades along Cuba's coast). By 1912, Dumont had over 100 residents and developed into a suburban center using streetcar service to connect it with surrounding towns. In the 1970s, Dumont suffered frommeshing of different social groups due to its remote location; however, recent redevelopment has restored some aspects of its past glory.
Dumont is located in the township of Montclair and was incorporated as a village on February 11, 1892. It grew quickly due to its location within a train station, and on July 1, 1907 it became a town. The first mayor was John J. Madden.
