Dover, New Jersey is a town of about 60,000 people located on the Delaware River opposite Philadelphia. The town was founded in 1788 by Loyalists who fled the American Revolution. Dover became an important seaport during the 19th century and developed into a major manufacturing center for firearms and ammunition. A man named John Wilkinson made pistols in 1725 using designs he had obtained from his British friend, Colonel James Cook. Dover, New Jersey is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,815 at the 2010 census. Dover is one of the five municipalities in the towns of Harrison and Milford that make up the largest city of Harrison Township. The first mention of Dover in written form goes back to 1275 when it was known as "Burdoc". After the death of King John II of England in 1199, his four daughters married strong men from Normandy including Philip Augustus Ier and their husbands agreed to divide England between them - each woman got her own share with Dover living under English rule until 1280 when it became part of Wales. In 1327 Dover passed into Scottish hands after besieging Edinburgh for nine months until its garrison surrendered. In 1814, during the Napoleonic Wars, General James Knyphausen's army invaded New York state and passed through Delaware along the way. On November 11th he encountered a militia unit near lower Dover on what is now Main Street and ordered his men to abate because they were not following orders which led to an all out battle that ended with about 150 Americans dead or wounded on both sides totaling about $4 million in damages according to records kept by Essex County Record Keeper William Fenton (1871-1952). The town acquired its current name from Commodore George Washington's flagship USS Constitution which visited Trenton Bay on July 1st 1784 during his tour across America before returning home again that September- this event is celebrated annually by commemorating Constitution Day as Patriot's Day in Dover. The first post office opened in 1814 and was called "Newark". It moved to "Dover" due to dangerous high winds blowing through town so mail could not be carried unaided by horses or wagons. The first postmaster was Mr. Cook who served until 1830; then Mrs Cook continued serving for six years before Mr Hantz took over for seven years until 1847 when he resigned because he had two children leaving only one mailbox open at all times! The last postmaster was Averill Moulton who served from 1851-1857. The first school teacher was Miss White who taught school from May 6th 1840- October 25th 1840 inclusive; she taught three days a week with no extra pay but did have use of a rooming house which she shared with three other teachers! After her tenure expired she left without notice as did most other teachers throughout those early years! There were no public schools until East Brunswick Township opened their doors circa 1850! Mrs Chapman started teaching after school starting January 4th 1860; however due to lack of pupils she resigned effective February 15th 1861 just weeks shy of her sixteenth birthday! Teacher Anna Jaffe filled that position beginning March 3rd 1861 and continue teaching until 1865 when Mrs Chapman returned full time once again! Then came Miss Gifford who taught from April 2nd 1870-May 8th 1870 inclusive; however due to increased enrollment at dances she resigned effective June 5th 1870 having already been offered another job within East Brunswick Township where she would stay for many years afterwards... Finally we have Mrs Boardman who began teaching September 16TH 1870 continuing until December 15TH 1870 inclusive after being offered an appointment elsewhere within township... From these brief history snippets you can see how quickly things changed starting with just one person taking over for another just days shy of their sixteenth birthday!! What followed next are some very interesting records such as: In 1875 there were only 10 students enrolling per grade level rather than twelve like today; And 1974 saw only 9 students enrolled !! This trend continued throughout those early years prioritizing attendance over money making something eventually lost sight Of completely!!!Today there are more students than ever attending our local public schools although transportation costs continueto play a large role dictating whether or not someone attendSDVHSO’s… School systems should more closely resembled how they currently operate overseas where Families choose their children’s educators based upon availability & cost effectiveness rather then individual postings !! Notwithstanding recent trends our community has managed successfully maintain high standards even though facing many challenges including budget cuts caused by economic conditions NYS has faced throughout History

Today only a small number of remnant businesses still operate in Dover although they have declined in importance relative to newer businesses that have replaced them throughout much of downtown today (e.g., Amazon).
