In 1847–48 work began on creating a new township which would include parts of what are now Collingwood and Haddon Heights neighborhoods; these areas were annexed into the borough by 1930. Thereafter, this process continued with annexations unto other municipalities until finally all of Morris County became an incorporated municipality on December 29th, 1951. The borough's incorporation occurred on October 15, 1925. The current mayor is Leonard Ahern.
