Collingswood, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,471 at the 2010 census. Collingswood is one of the more affluent towns in Morris County and has been ranked as one of the best places to live in America by Forbes magazine. The town was founded in 1884 by Methodist missionaries from Holland. The name "Collingswood" comes from nearby Clearwater River. The first store in Collingwood opened on Main Street on April 15th, 1884 by Rev. Coster and his wife Anna Burchardt (née Kline). There were only three stores located in the town when it was founded and they all operated out of their homes until 1905 when a new store was built on Market Street which became known as The Gilded Cage. In 1912, another new store building was added to the shopping center on High Street which became known as The Gold Dome. In 1928-29, Mr. & Mrs. John Prentice renovated and expanded what is now known as The Prentice Place Shopping Center which included an Italian restaurant/cafeteria called Belle Italia and two large department stores - Macy's and JCPenney - becoming one large enclosed mall with over 40 businesses including Sears Roebuck & Co., Hudson’s Bay Company, Stutz Motors Incorporated (later Chrysler), Radio Corporation of America (RCA) Store No 4 (now Home Depot), Pennzoil Corporation Headquarters Building No 2 (now Hearst Magazines), National Broadcasting Company Television Station W3XKS-TV (NBC), American Cinematheque Theatre IMAX theater also used for movies but closed down after 2003 due to financial difficulties;Today it houses several small businesses like H&M Department Store; home improvement retailer Ace Hardware; health food store Wellness Hut; Dunkin' Donuts Dunkin' Donuts Drive-In restaurant inside Shell gas station across street from post office; this location served as a movie set for "The Godfather". On October 8th 1954 local resident Harry Wexler donated land to be developed into what is now Broadwalk Shopping Center with anchor tenants such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Macy's Department Stores etcetera giving Collingswood its first big grocery chain presence along with other major retailers today like Walmart Supercenter Parkway Plaza Mall anchors that would later become part of Giant Eagle while still others have since left or been replaced like Safeway Pharmacy Townsquare Mall anchored by Rite Aid while BJ's Wholesale club Anchored by Harris Teeter remain staple fixtures today within walking distance of each other making this once rural community into one big shopping destination not just for locals but people who travel there frequently too!

At its creation, Collingwood consisted of only one street – Elm Street – and consisted of about 80 acres (30 ha) of land. Some events that occurred during Collingwood's early years include: on October 9, 1872, when David Humphreys built the first store in what is now collingworth NJ; on November 2nd, 1873 when Isaac Hines erected the first schoolhouse in what is now collingworth NJ; on December 12th 1875 when George Wainwright married his wife Catharine Ladd at Bethany Baptist Church; on January 4th 1880 when Rev John Geddes became pastor of First Presbyterian Church in collingworth NJ; and finally on February 10th 1888 when voters passed a resolution declaring it an incorporated borough with full rights to vote and own property within its borders. In 1912-1915 there were two devastating fires which destroyed many homes and businesses incollingsworthNJ: one started by arsonists while another involved an engine fire that burned for hours inside the old synagogues located around Prospect Avenue near Center Road. On July 1st 1922 additional streets were named after local citizens including James Reuben “Buddy” Fenton who had been awarded a $10000 city grant for landscape improvement work along Main Street betweenHunterdon Avenue and Maple Lawn Drive/Route 202; Alice Burt Kearney who had been nominated for her services to public education through her committee established to commemorate 100 years since Camden public schools opened their doors; John Ritchie Shea whose donation helped fund construction of new elementary schools across Middlesex County including Colesville Elementary School which replaced Our Lady Of Angels School which closed down in 1984 due to cost overruns following World War II . A total of 15 buildings were demolished or removed from use between 1922-1991 as part of large programwide demolitions/removals which took place throughout all five municipalities comprising Middlesex County during this time frame: Asbury Park Borough - 15 buildings!
