Collingswood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 40,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Area and is included in the New York–Newark, NY-NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Collingwood ZIP code includes all of the town and portions of the Township of East Brunswick. The area now comprising Collingswood was first settled by English colonists in 1714 on land that they bought from Native Americans. In 1775, during the American Revolutionary War, General George Washington took refuge in Collingswood after being forced to leave Manhattan with his army. The development of collingwood began with a small farmstead founded by John Richardson in 1824 near present-day Maple Shade Road and Ridge Road. In 1828, James Fenton purchased 100 acres (40 ha) east of what is now Main Street from David Stonehill for $320 per acre ($3 million today). Fenton built a large shotgun house on this tract which he called "Fenton's Mills". He also developed other businesses including tanning hides and selling flour to local merchants. In 1851, George Davenport became one of four trustees for what would become North Brunswick Township; he donated land to create a township center and named it after himself -Collingswood Township (later North Brunswick Borough). On February 26th 1870 Collingwood residents voted 3 – 1 to annex Woodbridge Township due to lack of support from officials there regarding annexation efforts by then-Collingwood Township as well as threats theretoby received from neighboring municipalities over proposed school closings or road widening projects within their respective townships – an event later referred to as "the watershed day" when those concerns led directly to enactment Of The New Jersey Constitution (1947). It should be noted that while much has changed since those early days - both physically (& socially) due to various Industrial Revolution advances - aspects remain distinctly rural & agricultural with many homes remaining unaltered through time: such as collingwoods' long history as a primary health care destination for residents living outside larger metropolitan areas; its location adjacent(& still served by) two public high schools & numerous elementary/middle schools; & its unique mix of Caucasian & Latino residents who have combined socio-economic stability (& quality OF life), thru generationsakness throughout both cultures

Collingswood is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Collingswood was founded by General James Vail and his wife Mary on November 5, 1795. The first post office in Collingswood was established on December 15, 1801. On May 6, 1838, the town became a city under the laws of New Jersey. The original colling wood tree (Quercus alba) located just east of present-day Collingswood was used to provide lumber for early settlers in this area. In 1822 one of these pioneers, John Waddleton wrote: "I have been hunting with my dog at a long distance from this village [Collingwood], and I saw a noble colling wood tree about three quarters mile distant” This tree served as the nucleus for what would become Collingswood. By 1870 there were 1,500 people living in Collingswood and it had an assessed valuation of $3,614 ($ as of 2019). In 1871 voters approved an act creating a special school district comprising all of Middlesex County including Collingswood; this district would serve as local education until statehood came into effect in 1947. The first school opened in October 1872 with forty students from eight families within one hundred fifty acres surrounding the old farmstead which included current-day Pascack Hills and Jericho Hill neighborhoods on the north side and east side of Broad River Valley on what is now southern Sandy Hook Drive (now Boulevard). Classes continued until 1916 when instruction began at Red Bank High School following AISD's decision to open two high schools in Essex County instead of single feeders for each township because “of space limitations caused by population growth” within each municipality during that era although some residents kept their homes within their own township borders until after statehood: those who did so received Township benefits rather than public benefits like schools or library funding which they could have received had they chosen to do so.) On November 3rd 1830 surveyors laid out lots along both sides of Broad River Valley between Sandy Hook Drive & Parcel 22nd Street (& today's Livingston Avenue) ...Collingwoods limits went up stream past Sandy Hook Elementary School (& back down again)...parcels 23rd streetnorthward & 24th Streetsouthward... directly south off Epps Road"...this property formed much later around home(s) of Mrs Henderson (& her descendants), late Dr Rogers (= Augustus Henderson), Rev Joice Henderson (=Mrs Jane Rogers), Rev Vernon Henderson (=George Oldenburgh/Vernon Hendersons grandson)...Epps Road ran parallel to modern day route 209A Ave which runs from NJ State Route 33W to intersection with NJ State Route 9W making it easy access from borough center."
