Bipedalism is the ability of an animal to move independently on two legs. The first bipedal animals evolved about 4.5 million years ago, in the Embryos of Mammals study by Michael Crichton. One group of these early bipeds were called the Eutherians, and they included everything from dinosaurs to camels. However, as humans developed more complex muscles and bones, they began to lose their ability to walk on two legs. That left us with our current form of bipedalism-the human. However, there are several groups of animals that still use their two legs for movement-skiers, runners, and cyclists among them. In 1598, Nicholas-Jacques Conte wrote about the Native Americans of this area in his book "The Conquest of America". He noted that they were bipedal and used bows and arrows instead of spears and swords. The first humans to live in Clifton were the Lenape people who lived here before migrating to North America.

Clifton was founded in 1795 by Scots-Irish settlers who came to this area from the nearby city of Chester. The town was named for General James Clifton, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the Continental Congress. In 1824, Clifton became part of the newly formed township of East Brunswick Township. In 1838, it became a borough and in 1851 it became a city. Clifton is located on U.S. Route 9 east of Paterson through rural farmland that has been used for farming since colonial times. The eastern border of the city is defined by Raritan Creek which forms its southern border with Morris County; its western border by Hackensack River which forms its northern border with Monmouth County

Clifton, New Jersey is a city in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 21,191 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mercer County. Clifton had a rapid growth in population and commerce during the early 19th century as a result of its location on the Newark-Philadelphia Railroad and its strategic position near Princeton University and other major towns in centralNJ. The area around Clifton became known for manufacturing goods associated with agriculture such as cigars, flour, rice, cheese, onions and apples; however, much of this production has since stopped or been moved to other states. The first European settlement in what is now Clifton Township was made by Pieter van der Werff and his brothers in 1681. They named their land "Netherlandt" after their native Netherlands. In 1736 John Snelling established an agricultural settlement on what would become Clifton Heights which he called "Hertogenbosch". By 1800 there were over 50 German families living here including Jacob Hesse who operated a sawmill along with his brother Wilhelm. By 1814 it had grown to include 135 homes and 5 businesses including two breweries - one founded by Nicholas Appelbach and another by David Whitehead - both located on Main Street between Great Neck Road (now Broadwalk) and Philadelphia Avenue (now Clinton Avenue). In 1825 William Smith began developing what would later be known as Northumberland Row which included part of today's downtownClifton shopping district complete with four large department stores - Sears, Macy's, JCPenney & Co., Goldwin & Sons - as well as several small shops catering to farmers markets and local consumers alike. During the late 19th century several new colleges were founded in central NJ including Rutgers University at Camden (1846), Princeton University (1868), Temple University (1901) before finally becoming campuses of Rutgers Law School (1945), Fordham University (1961) and Seton Hall University (1988). During World War II many munitions factories were built throughout northeasternNJ especially around Clifton where over 100 companies Produced munitions like machine guns, tanks/ tanks etc... These factories produced millions of tons of material that helped make America strong during World War II providing jobs for locals Brasscheckers/ machinists etc... However most all these mills closed down or went out of business within few years following the war ended leaving behind communities thatcontinue to struggle economically even 30 years later
