Cliffside Park, New Jersey is a town of just over 9,000 people in Mercer County, approximately 20 miles north of Philadelphia. The population increased rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as farmers moved into the area and new industries developed. Cliffside Park was settled in 1892 by German immigrants. In 1915, a factory opened in Cliffside Park that manufactured ammunition and other firearms. The company closed in the 1930s but left an impact on the community with its research and development programs for hearing protection products. In 1939, Cliffside Park became part of the United States after World War II. In 1967, a law was passed that made it unlawful to fire any firearm without first wearing hearing protection devices (HPD). The law continued to be enforced until 1991 when it was repealed by then-Governor Tom Ridge due to public opposition. Since then, there has been sporadic enforcement of HPD laws in Cliffside Park. However, most shootings take place close to schools or other places where children play outside or are away from home while they are wearing their HPDs. This makes it difficult for parents to keep an eye on their children at all times and makes shooting prevention one of the municipality’s top priorities. The current program designed to enforce HPD laws is called “No Guns Allowed” which began operations in October 2016. It is a collaborative effort between police officers and school resource officers (SROs) across Mercer County who wear listening devices while patrolling neighborhoods near schools or playgrounds where children play or are likely to be unsupervised. This allows us not only To detect potential criminals before they do any damage but also provide safety for our students and teachers!

It is one of the most ethnically diverse and economically prosperous municipalities in New Jersey. Cliffside Park was founded on a small peninsula that juts out into Camden Bay. The original town site was on this peninsula and it included both Cliffside Heights and Cliffside Park. In 1892, when Philadelphia annexed Camden County, the townsite became part of Philadelphia's newly created East Camden Township. From 1898 to 2002, all five boroughs in Camden County were represented by one member of the City Council; however, since 2002 Borough President Joseph Mancuso has been elected without regard to party affiliation. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cliffside Park were Dutch traders who landed at what is now Point Pleasant Beach on September 5th 1624 aboard the ship "Triton". They were looking for a trade route between Staten Island and Atlantic City which they believed would be available from land through Bridgeport because that section of the Delaware River had yet to be discovered by Europeans. After centuries of being an agricultural society based largely around hogs, chickens and potatoes there are few traces remaining today of early industrial activity here in Cliffside Park or throughout much of Camden County other than some evidence from abandoned factories dating back to 1924-1926 at 202-204 Mount Vernon Avenue in Cliffside Heights - once home to textile mills including those owned by Bethlehem Steel Corporation until its bankruptcy sale in 1950 (the company then operated as Ridgefield Mills). In 1892 when Philadelphia annexed Camden County, the townsite became part of Philadelphia's newly created East Camden Township which included both Cliffside Heights and Cliffline Park. Most notably these two boroughs experienced rapid growth during this time with many new homes being built including many high-rise apartments such as those located at 697 Market Street/The cliff Sidepark development which remains one of NJ's tallest buildings still standing today (it currently stands at 412 feet tall). During this time also local businesses like The Department Store opened their doors making it one of the earliest shopping areas in North America outside cities like Manhattan or Boston while also becoming an important center for literary production with newspapers like The Daily Mirror existing here until their closure in 1925 after just six months print run having started on October 15th that year. Borough president Joseph Mancuso took office after Philadelphians adopted a citywide form Of government effective February 1st 1902 following passage of An Act Relative To Municipal Affairs No 2 OF 1901 (Pamphlet no 3), known commonly as “Manchurian Law” due to its impact across multiple jurisdictions including Newark until November 4th 1922 when sovereignty over all municipal affairs reverted back toPhiladelphia pursuant to An Act Intended To Repeal And Replenish Certain Laws As RESPECTING Municipal Government therein designated “Newark Organic Laws” hereafter referred too although continuing application thereto continued pending Order Thereunder issued under Section 9 thereof providing for reapportionment etc…. On December 13th 1902 via resolution passed by both houses OfNJ Legislature At Large voting 54/46 favoring annexation By Westminster Boro Incorporated This resolution vested exclusive powers With Mayor Roosevelt appointee instead Of Borough President Mancuso…. Cliffside Park is a community in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The name is derived from the Cliffside ridges that border the community. The first Europeans to visit Cliffside Park were Dutch farmers who came up the Hackensack River in 1664. The area was originally part of the French colony of Amboy and was purchased by George Washington in 1784. The small town of Cliffside Park was founded as a result of land purchases in 1805 by Reverend Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife Deborah. The community had its peak prosperity during World War II when many local businesses contributed to the war effort. After the war, however, things began to decline as industrialization took hold and jobs became scarce. However, some residents have continued to live in Cliffside Park through various transitions over time including Hasidic Judaism, Italian-American culture, and African American service providers during different periods of economic hardship. In recent years there has been an increase in activity within the neighborhood surrounding Cliffside Park as young people have started living there for reasons such as proximity to schools or cultural events.
