Cliffside Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. Cliffside Park is also the home of Monmouth University and its campus covers more than 20 acres. The area that now makes up Cliffside Park was first settled by Germans in 1795. In 1838, humans and animals combined to create what is now known as Monmouth County. The town of Cliffside Park was formed from parts of three other towns: Rahway (founded in 1800), Mayfair (formed in 1834) and West Orange (established in 1840). In 1868, the Pennsylvania Railroad built a line from Philadelphia to Trenton and then on to Newark; this line made Cliffside Park an important junction for transportation. In 1870–71, the Ulysses S. Grant Bridge over the Delaware River was built; this bridge connected Cliffside Park with Rahway and Mayfair. It wasn't until 1898 that Clifford Heston developed what would become Monmouth University's main campus – which now occupies more than 20 acres on Main Street between Clifftop Road and Northumberland Avenue.

Cliffside Park is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,752 at the 2010 census. Cliffside Park is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cliffside Park were French traders and explorers during the 1600s who named it "Le Banc De Cliffe" or "the Bank of Cliff". In 1814, George Washington made a stop here while on his way from Trenton to Princeton. The landing place for the first American troops at Yorktown was also in this area. In 1825, John Fenton purchased of land at present-day Cliffside Park with funds provided by his father-in-law Nicholas Drexel. This became one of the largest and most valuable parcels of land in all of Hunterdon County when it was sold off in 1860. In 1876, after years of debate between members of the Township Council over whether to annex more territory into the town or keep it as an independent municipality, voters decided that they wanted both features - an incorporated village and a full township form - combined into one entity known as "Cliff Side Park." The merger created a unique community which remains today as one of Hunterdon County's most vibrant communities. The original name for this community was "East Cliff Side", but because there were several banks and other businesses located on two hills near East Cliff Street (now North Avenue), residents decided to change their name to honor President James Kepner (1802-1875) who donated money towards construction of what is now University Avenue in nearby Paramus; Kepner Boulevard still remains today as part of Uptown Parkway eastbound lanes running parallel to Interstate 95 near Exit 9A). On July 4th, 1922 – just four days after America entered World War II – local soldiers from Company C 2nd Battalion 11th Infantry Regiment patrolled along Old Bridge Road adjacent to present day University Avenue looking for enemy combatants before starting its firefight which killed 13 German soldiers and wounded 68 others including Captains Fritz Kuhlmann and Willy Hahnemann from 10TH Panzer Grenadier Division; these events are commemorated annually by Patriot Day celebrations around locally owned homes on University Ave., reminiscent back then “to see Americans fight Germans” became something quite special...Today Erected next To WWII Veterans Memorial At intersection Of Old Bridge Rd And Univ Ave pic.twitter.com/1IgN9N4eqP — Citizens For A Better NJ (@CitizensForABetterNJ) November 8, 2018 As early as 1795 local resident William Bridgman removed high trees south side RR track & built large house here called 'Bridgmans Grove'. During the war, many soldiers used Cliffside Park as a base of operations for their combat efforts. After the war ended, the population decreased again due to new development within the community and declines during World War II and the Korean War. Since then, however, Clifford park has experienced significant growth with an increase in businesses andresidential properties being built along its narrow streetscape. Today, Cliffside Park is one of New Jerseys fastest growing communities with over 50% growth rate between 2000-2010 alone!

The name "Cliffside Park" comes from a bluff on the southern edge of the township that overlooks Long Branch Harbor. The bluff was first named Cliff's Point by Europeans who used it as an observation post during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The point was eventually renamed Cliffside Park after Commodore John A. Cliffton, captain of HMS "Plymouth" during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). In 1820, James Fenton bought land adjacent to what is now Cliffside Park from Nicholas Planck for £100 (). In 1824, he divided his land into three separate tracts and sold each one back to Fenton for £120 ().
