Cliffside Park, New Jersey is a small town located in Hudson County, New York, United States. It was first settled in the early 17th century and became a part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. The area now called Cliffside Park was purchased by the United States in 1824 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The townspeople voted to name it after General Andrew Jackson, who had helped retake Tennessee from British forces during the American Revolution. After Jackson's death in 1845, his widow established a school in Cliffside Park and continued to run it until her death in 1902. In 1896, an amendment to the US Constitution granted Americans the right to bear arms for self-defense. This amendment led to Cliffside Park's nickname of "The Gun Town". During World War II, Cliffside Park played host to one of the largest military exercises ever held in America - Ranger School.

Cliffside Park is a small town in New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,694 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton-Ewing metropolitan area. Cliffside Park was first settled by English settlers in 1764 and it became a township in 1838. The post office opened in 1851, and closed in 1960. In 1896, Cliffside Park purchased most of what is now East Brunswick Township from its original settler owners for $10 per acre. The village of Cliffside Park was founded on October 16, 1916 by businessmen Harry Cramer and George Ahern as an agricultural community with a population of 100. On May 1, 1948, the Nixon Administration announced that it would sell all U.S. Forest Service land within commuting distance of New York City to make way for Interstate 95 development projects; this led to the closure of much of Cliffside Park's commercial sector and loss of jobs for many residents including those who lived on farms that had been annexed into the new village boundaries since 1916. In September 1950, Clifford Avenue (now Route 9) was designated as the main street through Cliffside Park with plans to connect it with New York State Route 7 (later I-95). However, due to traffic congestion created by I-95 construction projects and other real estate developments around Trenton during that time period,[1][2] Clifford Avenue designation only served as a ceremonial name until after I-95 construction began full bore in earnest nearby in 1998.[3] In 2000–2001, voters passed a referendum authorizing incorporation as an unincorporated community within Trenton Township with voting rights identical to those enjoyed by municipalities within Trenton Township itself; this decision made CliffSide Park one of two unincorporated communities located within Mercer County – along with South Hackensack – which enjoy such municipal status despite their lack of taxes or vote power over local government decisions.[4] As part as part its role as an unincorporated community pursuant to state law,[5][6] Cliff Side Park also provides education for children living within its borders via private schools operated by parents/guardians;[7][8][9][10] maintains numerous public services accessible free OFFLINE;[11][12][13]}and participates fully in all aspects of both township governance and local economy while remaining largely self-governing outside any formal channels or interactions with township officials whatsoever other than providing educational opportunities and services through private schools run by parents/guardians inside its borders

During World War II, advancements in technology led to greater firepower for Allied troops on battlefields around the world. This saw huge improvements in infantry weapons such as machineguns and artillery pieces that could kill significantly more people than earlier designs. In return for this firepower, however, many soldiers found themselves vulnerable to enemy snipers or other ranged attackers who were better equipped with explosives or grenades capable of destroying entire squads or even individual soldiers without warning. As combat transitioned from open fields into close quarters battles where individuals were fighting shoulder-to-shoulder against overwhelming odds, it became increasingly difficult for allied troops to gunmen or tanks employed by their enemies tohibt them any serious progress until they had been either killed or captured intact

The township was formed by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on December 10, 1836, from portions of Harrison Township. The townships were named for General James Yager Cliffside Park and James Doolittle Cliffside Park in neighboring Harrison Township. The first post office opened in 1837 and operated for six years under the name ofHackensack Heights. In 1851, portions ofhanover Township were annexed to Clifford Park; however, it continued to operate as a separate municipality until 1865 when it became part of Newark. In 1905, a group of men from Clifford Park purchased land east of Center Avenue in Teaneck for their new high school which would become known as "Cliff Side High School". Clifford Park remained an independent municipality until 1912 when it became part of Newarkcounty as one section within that county's new borough system. The current community was founded on September 3rd, 1896 by Barney Green who bought 20 acres (8 ha) near what is now Cliffside Road and Route 1A (now Cliffside Road/Route 9). He renamed it after his ancestor who fought with Washington during the American Revolution Cliffside Farmstead Garden). Green set up homebuilt stores and farms along what are now Routes 1A and 9 while he developed his land holdings including 17 miles (29 km) of beach front road running parallel to the ocean shoreline
Cliffside Park was originally a part of the Township of Monmouth. It was annexed by Jersey City in 1887. The name is from the Cliffside Path which runs through the community.
