In recent years, downtown Camden has undergone gentrification with mixed reactions from residents who feel they have lost control over their neighborhoods while developers have seen opportunity to create high-rise buildings and expensive shopping malls around Independence Square which have resulted in increased traffic congestion in Downtown Camdonia
