On October 14, 1724, they purchased from Captain Woolridge a tract of land that includes parts of what are now Camden and Gloucester Counties. In 1726, Captains James Whitaker and Jonathan Belcher founded Dunmore Plantation just north of present-day Camden along with other white farmers west of the Patuxent River. This plantation served as an important staging ground during the American Revolution because it gave British troops access to supplies needed for war effort without having to go through Philadelphia or Trenton. During this time period there were also several smallpox epidemics which killed many people in southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware counties including those living near today's Cross Keys Road (now called Northumberland Avenue). The first permanent structure erected within what is now downtown Camden was a gristmill built by Jonas Smeaton around 1768 on Southwark Street between Market and Broad Streets. This mill became known as "the Star Mill" because it produced flour until 1805 when it ceased operations due to political disagreement between local politicians over pricing policies emanating from London while plants operated out of Newark/Trenton under different management philosophies than those put into place at "the Star Mill". After its cessation production, "the Star Mill" continued to be used as an engine house until 1907 when it burned down; subsequently being replaced with three brick buildings on Southwark Street which remain extant today: Old City Hall (1907), Main Building (1909), and Third Floor addition (1911). This pattern held true throughout much of nineteenth century manufacturing activity throughout northeastern USA – mills closed one hundred years after they started operation while new factories sprang up all around town Such as Iron Foundry Company building located on Market Street which still stands today – it manufactured cannons during World War II! However starting around 1875 some textile mills began moving away from southeast Pennsylvania towards states such as Ohio where cheaper labor costs could be found plus transportation improvements had been made since cotton production declined across much eastern US beginning around 1825 most notably following Indian Removal Act 1865 thus ending slavery in northeast US.). These new Textile Mills opened up shop next door to Shoe Factory on Broad Street soon becoming known as “The Cotton Mills” followed shortly thereafter by Rubber Works Incorporated building still standing today adjacent thereto housing: Original Shoe factory fire insurance company office 1915-1976 & current day photo studio) . By 1925 there were only 12 such textile mills left operating statewide employing over 10000 workers makingNJ one outoften times more populous than western PA however sharein output same level . In 1965 legislature passed state law allowing large corporation sole proprietorship providing tax breaks & increasing competition thereby causing these larger textile companies to close down either via absorption or sale rather then attrition/sale/integration like their predecessors

In 1714, East Bergen Township formed part of Princeton Borough within Middlesex Township which made total area about 78 square miles (220 km²). In 1837, when Camden was incorporated as a town by act of legislature, eastward expansion into Mercer County began through annexation from West Berkeley Township (now Gloucester City). By 1861 there were 25 townships in Sussex County having a combined population of 513,564; however only 2 out OF THESE 25Townships (Camden) had over 100 residents! After all these years we do still have remnants Of That Event occurring today along Main Street Called The Gookins Mansion Now An apartment building
