When Brigantine, New Jersey was settled in 1764, it was a small town of about 50 residents. It soon became one of the most important ports on the Delaware River and as such, it enjoyed a large trade with Great Britain. The town's first Targets were set up in 1768. The Targets continued to be set up until 1801 when they were replaced by rifle ranges. Rifle ranges continued to be set up until 1836 when they were replaced by pistol ranges. In 1876, the town of Brigantine built its own rifle range which still remains in use today. In 1937, the Pistol Range was closed and all targets were replaced by new steel plates which can now only be shot with handguns.

Brigantine is a borough in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 2,883 at the 2010 census. Brigantine was formed on November 4, 1864 from part of Rahway Township. The first inhabitants of what is now Brigantine were Indian traders and their families who came overland from the East Indies in small boats. The first permanent settler was Nicholas Sprague who arrived in 1795. He erected a gristmill on the river and became one of the earliest commercial builders in this locality. His son-in-law, Abraham Dowling also built a mill hereabouts about 1800. After the Revolutionary War ended, business here slackened until 1824 when Andrew Miller imported 5 horses to power his new flour mill which he located near present day Union Street and Bridge Avenue. Continued growth followed as other mills were built along with residences and shops around this time including: Prentice & Sons Hardware House (now called Bargain Barn), Sprague's Store (now called D'Amore's store), Angelica Manufacturing Company (later renamed Mohawk Mills), Ladd & Co.'s Clothing Shop (later known as opera house building), First National Bank (1838) and John Fenton's grocery store (1840). In 1854 Brigantine had a population of 350; by 1860 it had grown to 1,000; by 1870 it had reached 2,000; by 1880 it had reached 3,000; and by 1900 it had reached 4,000 residents! Growth continued during World War I when many businesses closed due to prohibitionism but also during Prohibition years when production increased because smuggling became difficult since fishing quotas were not changed! In 1916 Brigantine annexed acronyms Addisonia Heights which included parts of Rahway Township which lay east of Route 9 south of its then current intersection with routes 9 BUSSRTEK EAST PINELAND AVENUE while still part of Sussex County On November 4th 1864 Brigantine was created from partof Rahway Township when that township was split into two following an act passed by the New Jersey Legislature on October 15th 1865 pursuant to An Act entitled "An Act for creating Boroughs within Middlesex County" as follows: "Be It enacted bythe Legislature thereof... That certain sections or portions thereof within Rahway Township be annexed to brigantine borough according to section 8 of said act." Brigantine has experienced some significant changes throughout its history including becomingan agricultural community during the early days with husbandry being its mainstay economy then becoming an industrial town during World War II with many manufacturing companies locating here including those mentioned earlier such as Prentice & Sons Hardware House and John Fenton’s grocery store before transitioning back into an agricultural community once again during recent times becoming more reliant on agriculture although still having some notable industry presence such as Angelsic Manufacturing Company formerly known as Mohawk Mills until recently closing down leaving behind legacy traces such as an opera house building located at 95 Bridge Avenue currently used for storage purposes while remaining active however not open to the public currently managed through special event management company named after her father Samuel Ziegler

The next year, Benjamin Banning developed the first Target Holder that used a screwdriver to hold the target in place. This Target Holder was much more successful and became popular. From then on, all kinds of Targets Holding Devices were created. Some were simple designs such as those used by Benjamin Banning while others were more complex such as those designed by George Stephenson for use with cannons. The modern day Target Holder is still being made today and is one of the most popular shooting devices around!
