Brigantine is a town located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,853 at the 2010 census. Brigantine is one of two towns in Monmouth County and it straddles the border of Ocean and Atlantic Counties. It is bordered by Brick Township to the north, Asbury Park to the east, Neptune Beach to the south and Westwood to the west. The first European settlement in what is now Brigantine was made on October 12th, 1764 when French trader Antoine Le Moyne built a small cabin on a bluff overlooking Long Branch Harbor. The first town meeting was held on January 18th of that year and James Purdy was chosen as moderator. On February 26th, 1765, brigadier general John Sullivan founded Neptune Beach which became known as "Sullivan's Corner" due to his ownership of much land thereabouts including part of what is now Brigantine. In 1802, an act were passed by the New Jersey Legislature which designated Monmouth County as itsown county seat with Brigantine becoming its second town. At that time there were only 11 families living in Brigantine while over 60% of its present day population consisted of farmhands who worked along the Delaware River or in other parts of central Monmouth County. On July 1st 1812 Brigantine had 4 people living inside its limits- all residents being farmers or their dependents working for their respective landlords outside the boundaries set for them by Act No 592 granted December 13th 1811 by Govt Printer George Washington Dixon during his term as Governor of New Jersey On September 15th 1830 a group comprising three men from Farmingdale (now Sayre) Village (northwest end), 2 men from Middletown (southwestern end), and 3 men from Southwick(southeast corner) began construction on what would become known as "The pier". This structure served as both passenger ferry service between Sayre Landing at Bulls Head Point upstream until near Sayre Island then continuing downstream through Dunellen ending at Seaside Heights before entering into open water again near junction with Trenton Bayou where passengers boarded and disembarked opposite piers A & B forming an I-shaped channel allowing vessels upriver docking without getting too close to shoreline while preventing large waves crashing against piers A & B causing great damage each time tides rose/ ebbed; ultimately providing much needed trade passage during heavy weather conditions between Newark Liberty International Airport and points further down river during early 21st century visits By First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton When she visited Manhattan after her election victory In 2001 Plymouth Meeting developer Haim Saban purchased 200 acres adjacent to The pier site from taxpayer funded township trustees effective November 9th 1978 for $2 million dollars followed by another $10 million dollar investment later that year i nHomes Incorporated which developed 90 acres including 6 Shoreham Drive - home today of ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer - adjoining villagehomebuiltin1979forwifeofbillionaireHaimSanchez .
