This made it a center for tornado research as officials learned how to prevent tornadoes from happening in these areas. A few years later, Brigantine got its own city government when it amalgamated with Neptune City. The current name of town was given to it by Commodore John Rodgers during World War II when he decided that all towns in America should have their own names beginning with "B". Rogers considered naming it Wilmington because there were no other towns similar sounding in terms of location or history but he liked brigantine better so he used that name for Brigantine until 1946 when Wilmington became an incorporated town within Mercer County same as Brigantine proper! Today, there are over 11 thousand residents living in Brigantine including 612 businesses! The economyof town depends mainly on manufacturing such as paper products and food processing; however there are also some small businesses involved in services such as accounting firms etc., making it one of the most diversified economiesin New Jersey! The waterfront has seen numerous development projects over recent years including new housing developments; office towers; a large park complete with baseball diamonds; retail stores etc., making it an exciting place to live and work!
