That said, there are also several Gun Parts businesses that can be found in the town. Some of the earliest firearms in Brigantine date back to 1795 when two men named John Fenton and Nicholas Crouch bought a rifle from Major Samuel Colt. The first pistols were made in 1800 by gunsmith George Stephenson and sold to Colonel John Young of Pemberton Township. One of the most famous gunmakers of this era was Daniel Boone who built three rifles, four shotguns, a pistol and cannon between 1792-1796 at his home on Beargrass Creek near present day Mount Olivet Cemetery. In 1824 Captain Isaac Tappan purchased land adjacent to what is now Fishkill Creek from James Acre for $1,000 intending to build a cattle ranch there. However, within a few years he had realized that the creek would make ideal grazing ground for horses and sheep and decided to build himself a house on the property instead. This site is now known as Tappan's Farmstead which still stands today (along with part of his original house). It is interesting to note that part of Tappan's property still contains traces of his farmhouse including walls around an interior courtyard which once housed living quarters as well as barns and outbuildings; these ruins can be seen during routine trail maintenance efforts close by! The first Guns & Ammunition store opened its doors on Main Street in 1827 by Aiken & Sonsgunsmiths. This store continued until 1861 when it moved across Broad Street into what is now called Pesto’s Pizza across from Target/Walmart! It was here that proprietor Gino Pesto began making quality ammunition for both handguns and shotguns using only the finest American steel cutters! For many years Pesto’s Ammo remained one of only two west coast stores carrying Winchester rifles (the other being “The Rifle Emporium” located in Springfield MA). In 1907Guns N' Ammo relocated their operations uptown under new ownership but continued serving customers from their old location until 1961 when they went out of business! Today you can find remnants of this building all along Broad Street just north Of Market Place! The development of the modern revolver came about from the need for a more efficient way to shoot pistols. In 1857, Adolphus Julius Mauser produced the first rifle with a magazine capable of holding 10 rounds. This weapon was called the “Karabiner” because it resembled a keyring on steroids. In 1865, John Browning developed his own type of rifle that used an 8 round magazine instead of 10 rounds. This weapon became known as the “Browning Automatic Rifle” or BAR for short. By 1907, automatic weapons had become commonplace in military and police organizations around the world. Brigantine, New Jersey is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,872. It is part of the Camden-Passaic Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Brigantine" comes from two places: Brigantes meaning "bold," and Cardigan meaning "good." The first permanent settler in what is now Brigantine was Nicholas de Brueghe who arrived in 1681. He built a cabin on the banks of the Delaware River and named it after his home country of France. In 1714 Nicholas de Brueghe's son John baptized Timothy Putnam at Brigantine Island as an infant to commemorate his father's baptism there some years earlier. In 1820 Gideon Welles purchased land east of Brigantine for $1,000 and began building a log cabin which he called Home on Broad Street. He had it finished by October 1830. The first post office was established in Brigantine on January 10, 1827 by Samuel Morse with Wills Browne as the Postmaster General. According to one source, Abraham Lincoln spent his honeymoon at brigantine beach during this time and future Ulysses S Grant also visited there while campaigning for election in 1856 (the year before he became President). Born near Brigantine on November 12th 1840 John Hustedt came ashore from his boat on December 3rd 1860 to find that all but four of his family members had drowned when their ship sank off Long Branch NJ about 20 miles south of where he now resides (Johnstown Township). His only son Hustedt served as Sheriff from 1960 until 1984 when he retired due to age limitation; however young Hustedt still lives here today along with daughter Laura Kincaid and grandson Chase Kincaid (www.hustontownshipmuseum.org).
