Brigantine, NJ is a town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. It was formed on Christmas Day, 1814 by the merger of two small villages, Brigantine and Robbinsville. As of the 2010 census, the population was 30,871. The first permanent settler in what is now Brigantine was Nicholas Cushman who arrived in 1795 and built a farm on present-day North Road. In 1814 Brigantine became a part of Middlesex Township through an act of the Legislature. The name originated from the brigantines or redoubts which were built to protect shipping at this location during times of war. The township seat moved to Mount Pleasant from Brigantine between 1868 and 1902; however, it has continued to be used as a mailing address for all residents within Middlesex County since then. A day school called Bridgewater Academy opened its doors in 1865 and continues to serve students today. The first post office in brigade was established on July 15th, 1800 by Captain John Stevens with mail delivered daily from his house at South Bridge Landing across Delaware Bay to Deptford via boatloads of salt water fish (now dried). The name changed to Brigantine after arriving here and is still used today as postal code 80901

Brigantine is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton Metropolitan Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Brigantine were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1624. The town was formed from portions of four other towns: Hackensack, Plainsboro, and West Orange. In 1847 Brigantine became part of the newly created Township of Newark. On February 15, 1868, it merged with neighboring Plainfield Township to form the new township of Newark-Plainsboro-Brigantine (later known as Bridgewater). On May 20, 1870, the townships of Newark-Plainsboro-Bridgewater and Trenton amalgamated to form the new borough of Trenton. Trenton's first mayor was John Denton Robinson. In 1951 Borough President Harry Stamper disbanded Trenton's emergency services department and replaced them with an all volunteer fire brigade which would remain until 1978 when it was reestablished as a city department under Borough Mayor Julius Erving Jr.. On December 5th 1957 Trenton hosted its first professional soccer game against Woodbridge Township which ended in a 1–1 tie with goals by both teams coming from goalkeeper Dick Ullrich and striker Don Freeman along with one own goal by midfielder Cliff Hoyer just before halftime giving Trenton their only victory at that level up to that point...This match also served as the unofficial starting point for American football in Middlesex County when local high school students began playing organized “football” matches against each other on holiday weekends (now called "Indoor Football Thanksgiving Games"). Brigantine was founded in 1795 by Captain John H. Brigantini and his wife, Ann. The first store on the current site of the town was built in 1800. In 1815, Brigantine became a part of Bergen County and was incorporated as a village. In 1824, it became a town and in 1829, it became an incorporated borough.
