Bridgeton, New Jersey is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 9,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City metropolitan area. The name "Bridgeton" comes from two Irish immigrants named Bridget and Fergus who settled there in 1810. In 1825, a post office called Bridgiton was established and remained in operation until 1974. Bridgeton's history begins with religious services being held at the home of Reverend Samuel Denton on May 17, 1810. Reverend Denton's wife also served as a midwife for local residents for many years prior to his death in 1824. This early service infrastructure helped contribute to the strong sense of community that persists today in Bridgiton - residents know their neighbors and are supportive of one another despite different backgrounds or interests. In 1865, John Slingerland purchased 1/4 acre (0.20 km2) of land at what is now corner Broad and Wayne Streets from Captain Cornelius Vanderbilt for $100 dollars which he donated to build a Methodist Episcopal church known as First Presbyterian Church (later become Baptist). This donation became integral to Bridgiton's identity as an open-air Methodist church where people could come together for worship regardless of religion or denomination. The first pastor of First Presbyterian Church was Revolting Jephthah Goodloe who preached there from 1862 to 1865 before moving back to Newark where he started his own church called Second Presbyterian Church (later become United Methodist). After a few years Pastor Goodloe moved again - this time to nearby East Orange where he founded Third Presbyterian Church (later become Congregationalist). Reverend Goodloe's sermon series "From Evening Primrose To Elm Grove" remain some of NJ's most popular traditions today and have been continued by pastor George McMillin since 1965 when Revolting Jephthah Goodloe died suddenly at the age of 80 years old! The third pastor, George McMillin officiated over First Unitarian Universalist congregation formed in 1975 by merger between Second Presbyterian Churches and Third Unitarian Universalist Synagogue; Stroudsburg Avenue United Methodist Church later took over this congregation too! A similar story can be told about Fourth Unitarian Universalist Congregation which formed around 1978 when merger between Second UnitarianUniversalist Synagogue and Fourth Unitarian Universalist Parish resulted in Bridgetonhaving its own synagogue building completed just outside town limits just before Christmas 1980! Today all six congregations are involved with one another - working together towards common goals such as providing housing assistance, educational opportunities for children & young adults, support services for elders & widows etc.; creating vibrancy &depth within our communities which has resultant positive effects on social fabric overall! In short: From humble beginnings through tough times - Bridgiton has always managed to keep its focus on community & hope despite exterior challenges!

Bridgeton was founded by Dutch settlers in 1675 as "Bridgetown". It became an incorporated municipality on February 14, 1874. On October 15, 1908, it merged with Paramus to form the new borough of Paramus–Hackensack. The merger was prompted by a referendum which approved joining Paramus and Hackensack because they were both experiencing rapid growth and had not yet reached their full potential as municipalities. The two towns each had 7,000 residents while Bridgeton had only 1,500 residents. On May 2nd, 2016 the Borough of Bridgeton passed a referendum that would have granted voting rights to all citizens over 18 years old regardless of residency within their borough or city limits! This move followed decades of efforts spearheaded by community groups to give voting rights to everyone in town!
Bridgeton was founded in 1806 by John Bridgeton and his wife, Elizabeth. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major roads, the Susquehanna River and the Turnpike. In 1827, a bridge over the Susquehanna was built and Bridgeton became an important trade center for travelers on the road between Philadelphia and New York. By 1830, Bridgeton had a population of around 1,000 people and it began to become a manufacturing town. In 1871, the first electric light bulb was installed in Bridgeton and this led to increased development in the town. In 1907, Bridgeton experienced its first tornado when a field north of town caught fire In 1925, Bridgeton became part of Bergen County. It continued to grow rapidly during World War II withthe rise in military activity in New Jersey and throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. As war ended, growth slowed but did not stop altogether.
