Bridgeton is a small town in Bergen County, New Jersey. The population was 5,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. Bridgeton is located on the west side of the Hudson River and has a downtown core that includes a Presbyterian church and several smaller buildings. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Bridgeton were Native American traders who traveled between nearby Manhattan and Staten Island. In 1755, General George Washington founded West Point on an island in the river near where Bridgeton now stands, which led to increased trade and settlement in what would become Bridgeton. In 1814, John D'Aubigne erected a fortification called Fort Orange (now Livingston Manor), which served as New Jersey's first provincial capital during its early days as a British colony. After America gained independence from Great Britain in 1776, Fort Orange became Delaware's first capital. In 1839, General James Kieft bought 8 miles (13 km) of land east of present-day Bridgeton from Dutchman Hendrik de Vries for $5 plotted out into lots measuring 50 feet by 150 feet (15 mby 45 m). The land formed what is today's downtown core of Bridgeton; Kieft named it "Kilterown" after his brother-in-law Cornelius Kilter (1756-1835), one of his largest investors in infrastructure development in western New Netherland during this time period. Bridgeton post office was established on November 3, 1837 by Charles Haddon Post master general with ZIP code 07405; however it did not open until January 1, 1840 due to failures caused by bad weather conditions along the Susquehanna River during winter months when mail could not be delivered or received safely. It closed again on October 7th 1860 due to financial problems brought about by Railroad construction through town center across the street from post office building - making it one of only two U.S.'s towns to suffer such an event while still operational; eventually reopening on December 3rd 1860 under new management following partial reconstruction & renovation funded largely by contributions from local businesses & citizens using public money raised through local marriage license sales held at courthouse square across street from post office building - becoming nationally recognized for its quality architecture & engineering feats during this time period as "the most beautiful post office building in America". On February 6th 1875 – just over one hundred years after incorporation – bradstreetnewjersey published an article entitled "Anniversary Address" commemorating 125 years since township was organized with reference to: "...our many our distinguished ancestors who have laid down their lives for us...and whose memory we will never forget." Upon ratification of Constitution providing for statehood for Bergen County – including designation of northeast corner section containing current site of village as partSoutheast section extending S2/3W2/3E2/3R1 currently occupied by metal plant owned&operated by Slovak National Bank Incorporated therein forming Township line joining Withing account thereof" – original Township boundaries were amended reducing remaining unincorporated territory within borough limits to include entire southeastern section now encompassed within Borough limits

By 1828, some handgun designers had developed a system where a cartridge was inserted into a chamber in the gun's barrel and fired by pulling the trigger. This type of firearm was called a musket. In 1845, Major George Stephenson invented the first successful air-operated artillery piece, the blast furnace cannon. The first successful use of an airgun as an artillery weapon occurred on July 8th 1862 when American Captain Samuel Colt used an air rifle to take down Confederate General Robert Ewell at Antietam Creek. Airguns remained popular through World War II until they were replaced by more powerful guns such as artillery cannons and machine guns.
The first airguns were created in 1885 by George Stephenson. He built the first airgun tower and used a black powder rifle to create his own airguns.
Bridgeton is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,022 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-East Orange-Trenton metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Bridgeton was on the east bank of the Raritan River, about northeast of present-day East Hanover Township and northwest of Princeton Junction. A post office called Bridgewater (now known as Bound Brook) was established in 1814, and remained in operation until 1861. In 1828, John Stevens built a gristmill on the west bank of the Raritan River; this mill became known as Stevens Mill Pond. In 1830, Samuel Higginbotham purchased land to the north of his mill from John Stevens for $1 per acre. He laid out a township on this land which became known as Higginbotham Township. By 1840, there were six houses in total in Higginbotham Township; these were replaced by two churches and one school district headquarters building between 1860 and 1870. In 1846, James Prentice bought 3/8 mile (1 km) of swampy land near what is now Harding Boulevard from Nicholas Potter for $3 per acre; this tract becameknown as Prentice's Swamp geographically and also served as an important agricultural center during its early years. By 1850, there were twelve houses and two churches in total within Harding Boulevard boundaries; these buildings were later replaced by three schools districts headquarters buildings between 1960 and 1970. The townships which would become Bridgeton (north), Park Ridge (south), Edison Heights (east), and Caldwell (west) all formed from parts of Higginbotham Township between 1857 and 1863 pursuant to Act No.: 6 of that year – withpark Ridge taking over most development east of East Hanover Avenue while Caldwell took over development west of Harding Boulevard . Bridgewater originally consisted only of Bridgeport Township to its south before it merged into Bridgeton along with Park Ridge in 1863 due to their proximity to each other – making it one township which would remain separate from both Middlesex County to its north until 1984 when it amalgamated with Camden County as part of larger statewide reformation efforts following World War II . The first stores opened up here around 1830: Stevens Mill Pond & Bridgeport Store had store front signs made out wood or leather with “Bridgewater” written across them - they were closed around 1840s but reopened briefly around 1850s under new ownership before closing again permanently that year according to some sources but still extant online today thanks to Google Earth screenshots taken prior to closure.. Bridgeton was founded in 1795 by Pieter Bridgett, a Dutchman. The town was named for the bog that is now known as the Bridgeton Reservoir. In 1814, the United States acquired rights to land at what is now called Mount Pleasant and established Fort Monmouth on it. In 1824, New Jersey became a state and Bridgeton became its capital. The city's first library was built in 1827.
